Sticker shock! Just got my final invoice from my venue

So I got my final invoice for my ceromony/reception venue today..yikes!! Granted it includes just about everything, chairs, tables, linens, food (cocktail hour food and buffet dinner),  and drinks (beer, wine and non-alcoholic) but still...$27,000!! I def. will not go around telling my friends how much its costing, but figured I could with you guys..so overall my wedding is going to cost $36,000. We are very lucky and his parents put in $10,000, and my parents are paying for the rest (they were budgeting $20,000)...It almost makes me feel silly having such an expensive wedding. I really fell in love with the venue (Kennolyn in Soquel) and we were going to have a smaller guest list, but our parents kept adding and it was like well if they are paying..we are having 175 adults and 25 kids..How about everyone else?? Is this hugely above the average budget for this area??

That doesn't sound that unreasonable for the area (nor cal)...when you add it all up, it is costly to have a large, nice wedding here. period. enjoy every moment of the day and look back at the pictures often. :) Happy planning!!

You've got a pretty big guest list, so I think you're sounding pretty good. We spent close to $30k for just 80 people (which I think is absurd and makes me cringe), but yesterday was the best day EVER so I can't complain. We went over budget on our photog and we're okay with that.

It totally depends on your venue and wedding style! It sounds about right! Our venue includes everything including food, open bar, dj, cake, etc... and it's $14k for 120 people... but I spent another $10k on various other things I really didn't need... grrr...

I haven't added all our costs up...I'm not sure that I ever want to.  I think your cost sounds totally normal though, especially for the area.

I don't thats abnormal we have about 130 coming with 11 kids and ours will all the costs small things rings etc is costing or cost about 50,000. Total so I think your ok people dont realize that it costs so much to get married. I think our venue price alone is 20,000.

WHOA! I guess I'm more of a budget bride than I thought... our wedding is maybe $15,000 and we are having the wedding of our DREAMS! I am in shock right now!

forgot to add, we will have about 110 people. wow.

Holy crap...I didn't realize how much I saved by doing stuff myself. We paid about $18k for everything for about 140 people. I think we had a $35k wedding, but did it for half price by doing stuff ourselves.

Wow...weddings sure are expensive.  I'm around $20,000 for everything and feeling pretty good about that.  About a 100 guests, beautiful private country club - including an outdoor ceremony right on the golf course and reception in the ballroom.  Also includes all the food and open bar all night long, awesome DJ, Videographer, cake and high end photographer.  I thought mine would be higher because all of my vendors are independent of the country club - but because of the economy I lucked out and did some heavy negotiations - including price of venue.

Thanks Ruthie. I loved my bustle too...except Rich stepped on it just before our first dance and ripped the bottom bustle out. So, don't worry about yours anymore. Haha. I also want to mention that my numbers didn't include full pricing for a couple vendors. I planned weddings, and have referred them many times in the past, so I got better pricing on them than the average bride would've.
