Florist Deposits- Is 50% the norm?

We met with a florist last night and she wants 50% of the total upfront. Is this normal? It just seems like a lot for a wedding that is over a year away. Even our location was less tahn that for a deposit.For those using Huckleberry Karen, what is her deposit like? Her prices seem really reasonable.

    Our floral deposit was half... but we didn't have to pay that until we got our proposals to our liking which took two meetings and a phone conversation.

    I used Huckleberry Karen and LOVED LOVED LOVED her... My situation was different because I had to book her and use her within a few weeks of the wedding. So I paid in full due to that. Let me find my contract! And see what it normally is.

    No, the deposit was NOT 50% more like 25% and a little under that actually. I don't know if she does percentage or just a flat rate. You can e-mail me if you have any questions about my experience! ronidittli @ gmail dot com

    I think our deposit was 24 - 33%. It was basically a series of three or four payments before the big day.

    Our deposit was 10%. A lot of our other vendors were 50%.

    Thanks everyone. I am definitely going to look into different florists than the one that told me 50%. It just startled me since it would have cost almost as much as our deposit for our location! When we met with her that night she said we could break up the deposit into payments of as much as we wanted, then came back and emailed me in the morning saying she needed everything in 1 week to book the date. I did not like how she flip flopped. Since we have plenty of time it gives me a chance to check out different ones, so far I am goign to look at Blooms by Nicole and Huckleberry Karen.   Thanks for all your help
