I'm honeymooning in San Fran (ideas?)

Hi Ladies, I'm from NH and honeymooning in San Fran in August. I've been there years ago. My FI and I really want to hear some great music and eat some good food while we're out there. I was wondering what your favorite bars/clubs/restaurants are in San Fran. We're a very laid back couple. My FI is actually a beer salesman and we both just really like having a fun time. We enjoy Drinking good beer, good music and all sorts of cuisine. Our favorite bars usually tend to be "hole in the wall" types that have a lot of character. But we're open to anything..... Thanks!!

Since you like beer, tour the anchor steam brewery. We are also a laid back couple so we don't do clubs. Our favorite bars are Bar-None, Columbus Cafe, Gino & Carlo, pretty much any North Beach (Little Italy Bar). Also for amazing Italian food go to Sodini's it is on Green Street. It is a little small but always has great food. There will probably be concerts in Golden Gate park around that time.

I love local breweries.  A few of my favorites are 21 Amendment, near the ballpark and Pizza Orgasmica and Brewery, just north of the park.  Speaking of, the golden gate park just opened a new science museum that's pretty cool, and the japanese tea garden is fun to walk around.  If you get a chance to drive out of the city, I'd recommend heading north to either the national forest beaches or napa valley for wine tasting.  I love SF, great choice for a honeymoon! Let me know if you have any more questions.

I would recommend the Cliffhouse for dinner some night. It has some great views and is right next to a nature trail that is beautiful. (We got married at a section of the trial, so I am a bit biased.)

Check out "Yelp" for ideas.  People are very helpful and you can get some very descriptive evaluations of local pubs, restaurants and every kind of entertainment venue.  Best wishes.  The weather should be beautiful, but be sure to bring a jacket to keep you protected from the fog!

As far as music goes, PP was right in that there are often music festivals in Golden Gate Park in August (one to look for is Outside Lands).  Also, venues to check out and see if anyone interesting is playing include:  Fillmore, Warfield, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, Slim's, The Independent, Bottom of the Hill, Cafe du Nord, Bimbos 365, Boom Boom Room, Pier 23, just to name a few.  (Over across the bay in Oakland, a couple major venues are the Fox Theater and the Paramount.)  Also, oftentimes on weekends, bars and clubs will have live bands as well.PPs have had a lot of good suggestions.  I second the idea of checking out yelp.com - it's a good way of finding out more about restaurants.  A couple random off-the-beaten-path more casual restaurant recs for you:  Little Star (the best deep-dish pizza EVER!), and Q ("funky American comfort food" - their mac 'n cheese has tater tots in it, yum! and their decor is definitely funky).  A couple delicious fancier restaurants are Aziza (upscale Moroccan food) and Joe DiMaggio's Steakhouse.  As far as bars go, there are lots of hole-in-the-wall options in the Mission and in the Inner Richmond (different SF neighborhoods).Happy honeymooning!

Thanks Ladies this is all great info. I'm all about asking the "locals" whenever I travel. I'm so excited to head back to SanFran especially because my FI has never been. I think we're also going to hit Napa Valley for a bit, I've been to Sanoma so I'm really looking forward to Napa and we're also going to head to Muir woods one day.

SF is great since you can probably just walk outside your hotel, look around and find some amazing places to eat and drink. Although you may have a booked schedule, one of my favorite things to do is hop on a ferry to Tiburon at sunset, have some cocktails on the ferry and grab dinner at Sam's in downtown Tiburon. Yummy clam chowder while you sit outside overlooking the harbor. If you guys are going wine tasting...and get tired and want beer there's the Silverado Brewery up by Sterling Vineyards. Although I LOVE most of the restaurants in the valley, Silverado Brewery has awesome food and great beer for good prices.

i'd go to the mission. lots of good dive bars and some great restaurants too. go to range or foreign cinema. or get a burrito because the mission district is burrito central. and lounge about in dolores park for good people watching during a sunny afternoon. they have movies in the park on some night in the summer there, so that's always a good time.
