E-pics question

So orginally I was against doing an engagement photo shoot since I figure what would we ever use these photos for.  But this friend at work really wants to do one for us for free and I suggested this really cool location that he's excited about.  So my question is, should I get my hair and make up done? Or do you ladies usually just do that stuff yourselves to keep costs down? I want it to look good but would prefer not having to spend any money if I don't need to.  However, I'm a person who wears very minimal makeup because I lack makeup skills.

I'm not getting my hair or makeup done for our engagement pictures.  I never even thought about doing it!  You've got me wondering now haha, but I probably will still do it myself.

I got my hair done, but I did my own makeup.  I didn't get my hair done for our family pics we got this summer and I wanted something more dressy for the epics.

I won a mini-makeover at a bridal show and I'm going to have it done the day of our e-pics. You may consider doing your hair/makeup consultation (if you are having one) that day so you have nice pretty makeup.

I did my own make up. I had my hair washed/styled the day before since my hair sometimes has issues. I wanted to look like my regular self and not do anything too out of the norm for me.

One option is to go to a department store and have them do you make up or have them show you to apply some things if you feel like you want some help.

I did my own hair & makeup, granted i just blew dry my hair straight and then ironed it, but as PPs stated if you're going to have a make up trial you can use it for that day.
It also depends on what you are going for in your pics, more casual, i wouldnt worry about...if you are dressing up for your pics, get it done, and if you can afford it, why not?

Ours were casual, in a park, so I did my own hair and makeup. I just did my makeup like I would for a nice night out (a little more than my daily routine) and straightened my hair.

I scheduled my hair and makeup preview session for the morning of our e-pics (e-pics were later that afternoon).  This was a GREAT idea!  I got my preview session done and looked fabulous for the pictures : )

The hair stylist/makeup artist just took my hair out of the 1/2 up 1/2 down wedding hair style before I left for the pictures.  She fixed my hair for the pictures so that it would be loose waves and less bridal-like.  It really worked out great : )

I should add that the makeup/hair stylist said that many of her brides schedule their preview session on the same day as their e-pics.

ours was casual and pics were taken by my FI's Dad...so i just did my own look.

one of my friends just did her own hair and then went to a department store to get her makeup done...she also doesn't wear makeup but she bought the stuff they used for her that day and I helped her with her makeup on her wedding day using the stuff she bought.

I did my own hair and makeup and didn't do anything fancy, but I also didn't have any formal pictures. If you're having more formal shots and have the money to have hair and/or makeup done, why not? Or like others have said, you can have hair and makeup trials done that morning. Our pictures were pretty casual so I didn't see the point.

thanks all.. once we figure out when we can schedule it I will then figure out if I can get my trials squeezed in too otherwise I'll just do my make up myself and it should still end up ok.  We're doing just casual ones, either up at Red Rock or this cool ghost town depending on when we're able to schedule them

I badly needed a hair cut, and coincidentally it was the same day as my e-pics. My stylist gave my hair a bit of a casual style, but nothing that I could have not done myself. Makeup was all me.
