Heels

What size heels is everyone wearing (assuming you're wearing heels)?  When I ordered my dress, I ordered it with a length so I can wear 3 inch heels.  4 seemed too high to be comfortable and 2 was too low...so I opted for 3. I plan to switch into sneakers for the dancing portion of the reception so I didn't want to get too high of heels because I didn't want my dress dragging too much when I wear sneakers.

I didn't have my shoes picked out at the time I ordered my dress and now that I'm looking at shoes, all the cute heels I like are over 3"!  :(  I saw a couple I liked that were 3.5 - 3.75" heels, do you think that will be an issue for the length of the dress?  Like will it be too high and look weird?  I can't imagine a .5 - .75 inches being a big difference but what do I know...I know nothing about hemming/alterations, etc.  I just can't find any cute (purple) heels I like that are 3".  Help!

Re: Heels

  • Have you checked out Zappos.com for heals or even DSW?

  • I'm wearing 2.5 inch heels. I'm already 5'8 or 5'9. FI is 6'2, but I don't want to be towering over everyone.

  • I'm looking for 3-4 inches.  i'm 5'1, FI is 6'2.  I'd like to be able to kiss him at the ceremony without him looking like a hunch back...

  • I havent decided yet, but i am 5'1" and FI is almost 6' so I am def wearing something with height. My dress is in and I want to wait to buy anything definite until I go and try it on, I ordered it in a custom length and I had two choices, either 3 in or 5 in shorter and I went with 5, but I im not sure if it will need to be shortened a little more or not, so ill figure it out when I get there....I have a feeling I will have to go with 3 inch heels or something...
  • I just ordered my shoes from Zappos and they are 4" but with a 3/4" platform.  I wanted them to be closer to 3" but I was running into the same problem.  Just keep searching, and I am sure you'll find something that will work for you :)

  • Mine are about 2.5 inches. I wanted something that I could be comfortable in for a good period of time.

  • Probably little kitten heals.  I'm 5'3'' and have accepted the fact that I'm short LOL.  FI is 6' so there's a pretty big height difference, but I would not be comfortable in really high heals.  I work in a lab so I wear sneakers all day and I usually wear flats or kitten heals when not in the lab.

I didn't order my dress in a custom length.  The dress shop that I went to highly recommended NOT to get a custom length because it's so difficult to get it right and not change your mind about shoes.  I know it makes for a little more alterations, but I think it'll be worth it.

I found some really cute Vera Wang flats- see picture :) I'm 6'1" already, and generally have no problem wearing heels, but I really want to be comfortable all night, plus I have to walk on grass for my outdoor ceremony. I also ordered my dress custom for 3" heels before I chose flats so I'll just have to get it shortened. First thing I've ever had shortened in my life haha.

For shoes, I agree with the other posters who suggested zappos or looking at online sites of department stores, which may carry more styles than the actual stores (Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, etc) along with DSW. The web sites are nice since they say the actual heel height. Aldo has cute heels sometimes too. Also, I'm not a huge fan of most satin dyeable shoes, but if you found some cute 3" ones, you could have them dyed purple and maybe add some embellishments too.
  • i alrady feel like a giant posting this...im wearing 4.5" heels. im 5"6. couldnt pass them up tho!! FI is 6'4" so no hunch back( LOL at mana..so true)

But im sure if you do go over the .75", they can take the hem out or something. doubt itll look weird. just bring them to the shop and try on together and see!!!

    happy shoe shopping!

  • I dont think .5 or .75 more would really make a difference.
I got my shoes from payless, from their wedding collection. they are 2in heels. I wanted to get something to give me a little more height but still not so high that i was uncomforatable all night. Plus I am getting them in the same color red that I want for the wedding (colors black, white, and red)
