October 2012 Weddings

Cardbox

What's everyone doing for their cardbox?  I'm starting to think about ours and I'm eyeing these boxes I'm finding in the stores that are in the shape of an oversized book and they open to be empty inside, I've thought about getting one for cards and the guestbook for storing after the wedding (nice way to store I thought), so I'm not wanting to buy any of the satin-lined boxes that will undoubtedly just be thrown away or donated after the wedding...seems like something that I'd perfer it to be more disposable?  What are you ladies doing?

Re: Cardbox

  • I made mine, it's in my sig. Scrapbook paper and a cardboard box. Not only disposable, recyclable! I did mine based on a tutorial because the design was relevant to how FI proposed and the theme of my wedding, but you could probably extrapolate the concept to decorate however you want. If you get a 12x12x12 inch box and 12x12 scrapbook paper, it fits near perfect with no cutting, other than the slot in the top. All you do is glue it on with rubber cement and decorate.

  • I made mine out of picture frames.  There's a picture of it in the middle of my siggy.  I have directions in my blog if you want to make your own.

    I made mine.

ETA: I covered a larger square box with paper, added a bow. I sat an old chocolate tin on top to hold a 'card' sign
~~Mendi~~ ...Everyone has their price; mine's chocolate Photobucket
  • We have a wine crate/box that we use for a plant in the house.  I'm going to put some fabric on the bottom and a sign on the outside and just use that.  We're also going to use it at the church to hold programs since we aren't having people hand them out.

I didn't like anything I saw for sale and I didn't want to invest in something that we would never use again.

  • My father is building FI & I a hope chest and we will be using that for the cards. It will be amazing and a family heirloom for generations to come.

  • I hadn't even thought of a card box...can't we just set up a table for gifts and people can place their cards  there?

Depends where your reception is being held, part of it I think is a security thing (not that I'm suggesting any of us are getting married in shady places, but if there's alot of other foot traffic in the area like hotel ballrooms people can be coming and going) and the other part of it is it's just a nice easy way to hold them all.  I've thought about a basket or a big glass bowl to drop them in too :-)

we are getting married in a theatre barn...it's totally private and literally out in the sticks.i really like achiduck's mail box!! there is a party store near my work that i'm going to check out to see if they have any similar.
  • My friend loaned me the box she used at her wedding, which her sister and another friend used. I honestly don't care about this detail very much, so I was happy she offered hers, and I didn't have to buy or make something!
  • I'm considering a giant glass bowl or a chest... hmm.

  • My wedding is fall Themed so pumpkin leaves and wheat, things like that so my card box is a huge pumpkin that s from a craft store
  • We got a beautiful tin "basket" for our cards. It matches the decor that we have for the church. We figure that we will use them all again around the house. We also got one for bubbles at the church, one for programs also (tin but a little different), a vase for flowers at the chapel entryway and then pew vases.
Just my two cents! Penny L G M
  • We bought a wooden crate from JoAnn's that FI is going to put chip board on so we can turn it over on it's top. Then, we're going to decorate it and guests can slide their cards the slots in the sides.
