October 2012 Weddings

First Real Wedding Related Panic

I think i've had a pretty easy time with wedding planning.  Until now.

I decided I wanted custom invites so I went to someone that a friend of mine used and highly recommended.  She has glowing reviews online.  I've been working with her since MARCH on these.  Today is August 1 and my wedding is October 13.  I still haven't seen a final proof.  I had to make changes and I sent them an email 2 weeks ago about it.  Last Friday I sent a followup email because I hadn't heard from them.  They sent me an email telling me they still needed this information which I had provided to them the week before.  I reforwarded them my email with all the information and they said they never received it.  I find that to be a load of bull crap.  Today is now Wed and I still haven't heard from them.  You would think since this was their mess up they would do their best to get me the revision in a timely manner.

I'm seriously considering forfeiting the deposit I made and ordering invitations online and paying a rush to have them here by next week.  I'd still be paying less than what I'd be paying her.

I'm sitting here at my desk pretty much crying about this.  I don't know what to do.

Re: First Real Wedding Related Panic

  • That really sucks!

If you decided on the online invitations, I ordered mine from weddingpaperdivas.com and they came in a week - VERY quick and everything was perfect.  They even have someone look over it for you, and they found some things wrong and emailed me for the OK.  I was very happy with the whole thing.

  • I'm so sorry. Was it a huge deposit? I think if it's in your budget, you wouldn't be out of line in canceling your order and ordering online. You have given these people plenty of time. (I totally didn't mean to rhyme three times in those sentences.)

I also am extremely pleased with my order from Wedding Paper Divas and I'd recommend them in a heartbeat. They were very thorough and someone even called me when there was a question about my order, which was above and beyond what I expected from an online company.

Good luck either way, and let us know how it turns out!

  • It was a $250 deposit but I would rather eat it then not get my invitations out in a timely manner.  Wedding Paper Divas is the site I would go with as I've ordered from them before and was pleased with their quality.

I think if I don't hear from them today I'm going to cancel my order.  I'm sick over this at the moment.

  • I'm really sorry - it really irks me when people claim to 'lose emails.'  If I didn't get an email rejection notice, then sorry but you did get my email.  I am having similar issues with the main contact at my venue right now saying she never got some emails and it is just delaying the entire process.

I would probably do just what you are doing.   Go ahead and give them one more day and then get on ordering another option which may turn out even better than the original one. Best of luck!

  • I would either call or email them again today and tell them where you stand.  They don't want to loose out on more money from you and if they care about their reviews online, they should come through with your order.

I would say something like, "I haven't heard from you since my last email and I have to be honest that I am beginning to loose faith in your ability to complete my invitations in a timely manner.  If I do not hear back from you by close of business today, I will cancel my order entirely, knowing that my deposit is non -refundable.  I will also be sure to leave an appropriate review about you and your company."

    Good luck!

  • I was in a similar situation earlier this year with a friend who does cards/invites, etc. She sent me 3 options for a monogram back in January and I immediately sent her feedback and then never heard for months. Finally by April and many promises to "send a proof tonight" I had had enough and I hired an actual company.

I would call them and say if you don't have your final proof in 12 hours the deal is off and I would immediately look elsewhere.

Sorry this is happening so late in the game.

  • Thanks for the support!  I'm going to send another email and if I don't hear back immediately (I know she has an assistant who monitors the emails) I"ll follow up with a call and I am canceling the order.  I don't have time for this.

Sorry for the situation, especially so close to when invitations should go out.  I don't have any advice to add to previous PPs.  I got my invitations through wedding paper divas and was very happy with the quality and how quickly they came.  There's a lot of coupon codes online for them too, you can probably get free shipping and 20% off. Good luck!
  • Yikes, good luck!  That is so stressful!  I would definitely use multiple forms of communication to make sure they get your seriousness about the situation.  A $250 deposit seems like a lot to me, but you can find something beautiful for less that will be in your hands soon.
