Do you have your cake/cupcake style picked out?

I was looking through cake ideas on TK homepage and was wondering who on here has their cake design picked out?  We found pictures we liked but changed up the design a bit when we had our consultation with the bakery.  The picture I have is somewhat like the style we are going for, but yet will have a lot more unique qualities to it.  Do you have a picture of your design choice?

We like the idea of a square cake, but wanted to change it up so we are going to have the base tier stationary and then each tier will have a quarter turn (4 tiers). Each tier will be the same height as well, FI doesn't like the look of fat tiers and skinny tiers mixed.  It will be a white cake with black ribbon around the base of each tier and then red and white roses on top.

  • cake 403

Sorry if the picture is ginormous, I just pulled it straight from the bakery's website.

That is our general cake design- 3 tier, rounded, with the decorations.  We are NOT going to have the roses or the fondant ribbon.  Our icing swirls are going to be done in emerald icing to match  my ring, and then the cake topper will be a giant sparkly S for our new last name.

  • Pretty cake RockstarWifey!  We aren't doing a fondant ribbon either, they told us if its a fondant ribbon the whole cake had to be fondant due to the weight.  Ours will be buttercream frosting.

this is not true- sounds like your bakery was just trying to make you order a fondant covered cake because it costs more money!!! i am a cake decorator/ baker and work with both fondant and buttercream.
  • Mine's in my photos. Each cupcake will have a gumpaste daisy on it and there will be gumpaste daisies on the cutting cake, though the cake will be shorter than that.

Oh really?  Thats interesting to know, we didn't really want to use a real ribbon on our cake but they told us that a fondant ribbon wouldn't hold on a buttercream frosted cake.  We were considering using the beaded look around the base of the layers as well.  On our price list they gave us, fondant was a lot more expensive.

  • This is the sketch done by our baker. The cake is going to be white buttercream, that is going to be a navy fondant ribbon around the middle with a sparkly brooch we found in the middle. We were absolutely against fondant and didn't really want the fondant ribbon, but she said that real ribbon would get grease spots coming through from the buttercream, so we're okay with it. On the intersections of the "quilting" there will be little silver beads (called dragees, I believe)

  • Here's ours. Fits perfectly with our colours and art deco influences.

  • ours will be somewhat similar to this...4 tiers, buttercream icing, fondant fall color leaves descending down the layers. NO ribbon though ours will have ball borders.
  • This is my inspiration pic. The flowers will be fall reds, oranges and yellows and the ribbon and bow will be navy. We might put flowers on the top only instead of on each tier. Haven't decided yet. And it won't have the lace applique detail, which I love, but FI wants something simpler.

  • I'm the only one who has no idea!  haha  Awesome!

  • This one is ours.  The changes that we are making are separating the tiers for flowers in-between each layer, flowers on top, and an H for the cake topper.

Yay!  Glad to know!  I've just been pushing off meeting bakers because it doesn't seem as pressing.  Honestly, I really don't even know if we will end up with cake or cupcakes! My gma is really pushing for cupcakes, and I love cupcakes, but then I'll also have to find cute stands for them.  tbd!  It probably won't get close to resolved until the end of July since the next few weekends are full!
