save the date help??

we just decided to move up the date of our wedding to 10-26-2012 it was originaly gonna be in 2014.so i have alot to do in a few months and im doing alot of DIY stuff.but im having trouble with getting my STD out because my FI sister is getting married in may,2012 and he thinks if we send out our std's now we will be "stealing her spotlight" how to i expain to him that its something that needs to be sent out early for guest to make arragemts for our wedding,but not step on his sisters toes??

Yeah now there is someone else on here with the same date as me- send out your save the dates so people will know... its not stealing her spotlight, its giving people a heads up, which will be good for people on your fi's side esp. if they have to travel they can prepare to start saving to travel for both weddings!

I would send them and send them sooner rather than later.  If you wait and send them when his sister sends her invites that may be too close.  That would be a case of possibly stealing the spotlight, which I hope she wouldn't care about, but if you send them by mid-March you are well ahead of her.

We haven't had engagement pics done or sent out our save the dates. I've been told to do it 6 months in advance. If you do it too soon people may forget. At least that's what I think.

Send them out now.  Your FSIL will have to deal.

I would send them. Her invites will be going out next month so you should have a few weeks between people receiving each one.
