Anyone doing a bridal party dance?

I want to do a fun choreographed bridal party dance, but I am having a little trouble finding something with a good balance between stupid easy and ridiculously hard. I've looked all over youtube and there are a lot of dances that are broken down, but nothing that I think will work. Is anyone else doing this? If so, what are you doing and how are you coming up with choreography?

Re: Anyone doing a bridal party dance?

  • I think they look like so much fun but unfortunately my friends aren't those types of people and I think I'd be a little scared to see his groomsmen try and dance so it'll just have to be FI and I.

  • Kind of but not really.  FI and I are going to do a minute of our first dance to 'HoneyBee' by Blake Shelton, then cut to Time Warp, from rocky horror.  At that point, we'll invite the party out to join us, as well as other couples.

  • We are doing a bridal party dance but it wont be choreographed.  We are preeeetttty sure we're doing our bridal party dance to "hey ya" by outkast.  Should be way too much fun!

  • I'm not a fan of bridal party dances. They just seem so awkward to me. Choreographed are slightly better but I thinks it's just another dance that delays your guests having food or being able to dance.

  • Ditto Petal. I think they're awkward for everyone involved and the rest of the guests.  No one will want to sit and watch a 4th dance (assuming you're doing the rest of the spotlight dances), especially an awkward one.
  • Agreed, they're awkward and cause unnecessary stress for your WP. Pass.

  • If you really want to do it you could ask your bridal party first if they want to be involved and then ask them for suggestions.

No offense to anyone who has replied, but OP might be from an area where these kinds of dances are normal and not awkward.

  • I think it depends on your friends and family rather or not a dance like that could be awkward and unwanted.

For example, we're doing the first dance, the father/daughter dance and then we're also planning a sort of surprise bridal party dance(no one in the WP is being forced to do it) but we're choosing to do it because most of our friends and family love a good show and really enjoy a good laugh and have enjoyed watching these types of dances at other weddings.

However if your guests are a little more strict then perhaps this is a dance you should skip. It all depends on the situation you find yourself in.

As for the choreography, I've been dancing on and off most of my life so I've been working on the choreography myself while taking the WP thoughts on it into consideration as I work on it. I am using youtube for ideas though.

    I hope this helps!

  • Woah, seems as though I've hit a sore spot.

I suppose I should have mentioned the bridal party has been asked if they would participate, and all have agreed to do so. Most of the groomsmen were in show choir with my FI so they will have no trouble with it and all of the bridesmaids were in some kind of performing arts (band, choir) so getting up in front of people is nothing new.

I know my wedding guests will get a kick out of it, so I'm still going to do it. Thank you for the input ladies. I think FI and I are going to try choreograph it ourselves. Now we just have to decide on a song.

  • I don't think it's a sore spot, well not for me. I was just giving my honest opinion. I think people are used to them so if you're going to do it, fine. I just was stating the reason I am choosing not to. I thought the question was asking us if we were and how we were doing it. I answered that question.

Also, just because everyone in an area does these dances and is used to it, doesn't mean it's not awkward.

I'm glad that your WP wants to do it. I'm sure it will look cute and I would rather watch a choreographed dance than one where everyone just dances in circles with their partner.

  • I think it's a situation where you and your WP are going to best know if it's a good idea as opposed to not. This is where the internet can be a deterrent some times, as you know best what will work best for you! :) It's not my kind of thing, so I hadn't contributed, but best of luck with it!
