Boudoir

For those of you ladies that have done them, or are planning on it soon, I was wondering what sort of preparation you should do before.  Like, did you just pick out a few cute outfits and call it a day?  What questions should I ask my photographer.  I'm having mine done on Friday and I've now started to get nervous and feel unprepared!  Eek!

Re: Boudoir

  • I did them.  I would encourage you to find some "inspiration" photos so your photographer knows the look you are going for.  You also want to plan your outfits/hair/make-up for the shoot.  As you are thinking about your look, think about any props you might want to bring to complete the look.  One thing I forgot, I had my make-up professionally done, but the photographer suggested I reapply lip gloss during the shoot and I didn't have any.  Also, having looked at my photos, I was so afraid to touch my hair because it was professionally done, but make sure you toss your hair (if you are wearing it down), mine got kind of flat towards the end even with curl and product.

It's really a fun and empowering experience.  Enjoy it!

  •  I did mine and had such a blast!

I ended up scoring a Living Social deal out of Rochester, so it meant an hour drive, but saved me $250!

I did my own hair and make up, picked out 7 outfits just to have options (I did not end up using all 7).  The one thing I would like to say that everyone may not agree with, don't get your hair and make up done.  You want to look good but still look like yourself.  I just added volumizing spray and made it a little bit sexier than normal.  The only difference from my normal make-up was that I added eyelashes.  It made my eyes pop in the photos.

Drink lots of water the week before.  You're skin will look killer.  I would also recommend lotioning your skin too.  The lotion will give you a silky look in the photos.

Have fun with it and don't be nervous!!

  • Oh, and if you have your wedding shoes, bring those.  Some of my favorite photos are with those shoes.

Thanks for the tips ladies!  I'm nervous about what to wear and what to expect.  I, too, got a deal like Living Social, but I think it was a Wedding Channel one.  Great deal, but she doesn't have a studio, so I am getting a hotel.  It feels a little awkward.  I'm having my hair trial that afternoon before, but I'm going to have her take down the curls after.  I will just do my own makeup.  I think I just started feeling overwhelmed!

    ETA: removed some info.

  • I did mine in June and was very nervous. I brought along one of my closest friends to do them with me to make it a little easier. It was so much fun! It's a unique experience and you will feel so good about yourself after you do it. I wouldn't suggest getting spray tan before hand. I had one done and my skin was a little streaky and you couldn't even tell from the photos that I had it done. Luckily, my photographer was able to edit out the streaks but that means extra work for them. Choose outfits that you are comfortable in. If you are uncomfortable it will show in your photos, and that defeats the purpose! Drink a few mimosas before you do it and let loose! Don't wear any tight fitting clothing or anything that will show marks on your skin. If you are going to wax do it a few days before so that you don't have any redness or bumps. Let your photographer direct you, as she knows what poses will look best for your body. Some positions may not be comfortable but they turned out to be some of the best pictures! Also, cut out all of the tags of your outfits before your shoot and ENJOY feeling beautiful and sexy :)
