October 2012 Weddings

Flow

How will you communicate to your guests what is going on when? When will people know when to sit down for the ceremony to start, how will they know we have a receiving line and that they have to pick up their favors/seating assignments from a special table. How will they know to start eating, when the first dance will be, when the toast/cake cutting is and when we are getting ready to leave. We don't have a DJ but we have a friend who will be playing music beforehand, during dinner and running the iphone for the music. Is he the person that should be doing this? I also have a DOC should she do it? I just don't want people wandering around all confused!

Re: Flow

  • I think the ceremony seating is pretty obvious - show up and sit down before the time on the invitation.

For the receiving line, line up wherever you're doing the line and have your BMs and GMs spread the word that the line is happening (this is if you do it at the end of cocktail hour).  If you're doing it at the end of your ceremony that's easy - just line up at the exit of the ceremony venue.

The seating assignments should be at the entrance to the reception.  It should be fairly obvious that they need to stop at this table before sitting down.

They start eating when food is placed in front of them.  If you're having a prayer/blessing, make sure that the prayer leader gets a mic before food starts being served.

Toasts should just be started - these people should have a mic if possible.  They can do a couple glass clinks and say, something along the lines of "I'd like to make a toast".

For cake cutting and your exit, you can have either your music person or your DOC make an announcement.

People have been to weddings before, they know the general rules.  I think you need to relax, take a breath, and stop worrying about it. I don't think anyone will be running around with no idea what's going on.
  • Ditto everything PP just said!
