Experimental Baking!

Today, I begin the journey of trying recipes for the cupcakes I'll be baking for our wedding. Eeek! I think I may be taking on more than I can, but it saves money and I really do like baking. On the menu for today: red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream frosting, garnished with a cherry (the kind used in cherry pies). Tomorrow, I'm going to try pumpkin cupcakes with chai cream frosting and sliced almond garnish :) Really looking forward to that one! Just wish I knew what to do with all the cupcakes I make....maybe I'll take them to the teachers at my daughter's school?

Wish me luck!

  • If you live in a small town, maybe take them over to your local police or firehouse.  When I was growing up (in a very small town), we used to make full recipes for cupcakes, cookies, etc. and take whatever we didn't need over to them and they always appreciated it.  My mom still does-- can't get herself out of the habit of making a full recipe even though it's just her and my dad now.

  • bring them to me, lol. I made red velvet cupcakes today... only i used blue food coloring. and they look absolutely awful. They're kind of short and squatty and came out very green. I need them to take to school tomorrow. They taste great, but they seriously look so pathetic. I would like to say that I am under the effects of analgesics as I suffered from a concussion on friday night, so it's not my fault, lol.

But seriously, I love the idea of taking them to the police or the firehouse, I vote firehouse, as FI is a volunteer fireman.
  • Great ideas, girls! Thanks!

i am making the full recipe, just because when it gets to the day of, I don't want to be caught by surprise if there's not enough for the quantity I need. Since I'll be practicing for awhile, I think I'll give some to each group mentioned. There's nothing like variety ;)
