Sit Down or Buffet?

I was talking to some co-workers and they said that sometimes doing sit down dinner is cheaper. What are you ladies thinking about doing?

Re: Sit Down or Buffet?

  • I am doing a buffet.
Though I enjoy the idea of a sit down dinner much better than a line to eat, our budget and the venue we selected a buffet is the better option for us.
Also, a sit down dinner requires more details i.e. specific seating chart, more print on already small RSVP cards, and the hassle of what happends if there is extra guests or someone gets chicken instead of fish. Ha ha.
I say if you're going for a more formal wedding and budget allows go all out for a sit down dinner. But if you're having a semi formal wedding and a smaller budget go for buffet.
  • I was considering doing a buffet because of the reasons Courtney stated; it is less expensive and you don't have to add any of that information to the RSVP card,  the venue where I am having my wedding is not really set up to do a buffet. So I think if you would like to do a buffet go ahead.  I have been to weddings with them and they went with much problem. One of the only problems was having to wait to eat, but that can happen with seated dinners as well depending on the speed of the kitchen and wait staff..

  • I am doing a buffet because it just works out better in alot of ways. Plus it was my cheapest and best tasting option. :)

We're doing a sit-down for two reasons: sit-down was actually cheaper than buffet at our venue, and with the size of our guest list we were worried about the logistics of getting that many people through a buffet line. When I'm a guest at weddings, I like either one. Feed me, and I'm happy.

  • ditto acwm- were having over 200 people so we didnt think buffet was a good idea for a group that size

  • We are doing a buffet. With a  mashed potato bar. (yum)
  • buffet is usually cheaper here however its also kinda a no-no in NYC so we are doing the sit down.. i think it all depends on where you live. just like the open/cash bar topic certain things do differ where you live

  • We are probably doing a buffet, Italian style foods. We are thinking of doing different types of pasta and sauces, plus chicken and Italian sausage.

  • We are doing a sit down. The sit down is only a few dollars more than the buffet at my venue. We choose the sit down for a number of reasons 1. I have a few people in my family who are hard of walking and I don't want them to have to worry about walking through the buffet line with a cane, walker or wheelchair. 2. At my venue there is no kids meal for the buffet (weird) 3. Whenever I go to a wedding with a buffet I get self conscious and I don't take that much food. If I get a big plate I think that people are looking at me and thinking "Wow look at how much she is eating!" I know that no one is really thinking about it but I worry over stupid stuff.

  • Buffet
  • I originally thought my venue only did buffet but it turns out its going to be sit down. Which Im ok with becasue the area where the buffet normally would be is kind of small of 120 people to pack into just to get food.
