Getting E-ring Ready for the Big Day

How far in advance are you getting your e-ring cleaned before the wedding?

My ring is actually platnium and has developed patina. I am debating getting it polished to bring back the shine. If I do that, I am not sure how close to the wedding that needs to be done in order to stay shiny!

Any one else thinking about this yet?

I'm going to do it the week before the wedding.

But here's a hint from the guy at Tiffany's: Toothpaste and a toothbrush is a fantastic ring cleaner! Buy a soft toothbrush that you don't intend to ever brush your teeth with, squeeze about 1/2 pea size amount and scrub all over your ring and then rinse and continue to scrub so all the toothpaste gets rinsed away. It works wonders!

I think probably a week before the wedding. I hate doing thigs last minute. My ring is white gold and has to get re-rodiumized. So, maybe about 2 weeks before.

I have white gold and I sent it out to be replated/dipped with rhodium. Since we went through one of the main mall retailers Kay's it takes two weeks. I'm gonna go pick it up next Tuesday.

I had my ring resized and dipped this week.  I have to go back though and get it buffed out a little bit more though because the gold looks like it is tarnished.

I'm going the day before, gulp, ha. It's just what works best. I cleaned it up a bit myself this morning with some dishwasher detergent just to hold me over until then. Looks super sparkly!

I should specify that I'm just going and getting it cleaned up, not doing anything bigger to mine. When I've gone to the store before (for wedding band shopping), it takes like maybe as long as five minutes. I don't really know what they do to it? I've never asked. But when they rbing it back out, it's super shiny.

ETA: Mine is platinum too if that helps you, OP.

Getting mine re-dipped and cleaned a week before.  The lady at the jewelry store FI bought it from said it should only take about 5-10 mins.  I'll probably also get it cleaned the day before just to make sure it is super sparkly for the big day.

I'll probably get my white gold ring redipped when we pick up my wedding band. That or the weekend before since the store does it in house and will take 10 mins.

My wedding is on the 13th and I'm going to take mine to be re-plated on the 1st or 2nd. Mine takes a couple of days at our local jeweler because it has small yellow gold accents and they have to tape those off so they don't get turned white. I have a place where I live that I really trust. I'll probably only wear it on the 6th for my bachelorette and on the 9th for my bridal portraits to keep it extra shiny.

I got mine re-dipped today. I expected them to have to send it out but they had it ready in less than an hour. We bought it from a mall store owned by the same company as Kay and Jared, and Jared does all their stuff in house so my original store recommended taking it there. Soooo shiny now!

I'll clean it myself the day of. Cleaning your own ring is really really easy. You can use Windex or the cheap jewelry cleaner from Walmart. When I worked for a jewelry store, we used Windex in our sonic cleaner. The ammonia in it breaks up oils and hand lotion, which is usually what builds up under the stones the worst. Take an old, soft toothbrush and make sure you get the bottom side of the stones - that's what makes them really shine when they're clean. I have a personal sonic cleaner that I got for free from my store, but I never ever use it. I really have never been able to tell the difference with and without sonic, but because my e-ring has alexandrite in it (which is a soft stone, like emerald) I can't put it in a sonic cleaner because it might crack it.

Save yourself the gas money and trip to the mall and clean it at home. :) Just make sure you scrub it from every direction so you get the full sparkle!

I am actually bringing mine the week before the wedding, having the band and e-ring soddered together ad re-dipped.  Won't be able to wear it til the ceremony but I am ok with that because I really want them soddered.

I have platinum also.  I spoke to our jeweler and he said that he could do it while I waited. Call your jeweler and see how long they need your ring for and plan accordingly.   I would say a week before is a good bet.  I am having mine polished to bring back the shine!  Good luck.

Check with the store your FI bought it from. If he bought a gold warranty with it (some stores include it at no charge) then it will be covered under that. The last time I paid out-of-pocket to dip a ring, it was $25 but that's been several years.

Stupid question ... does re-dipping take out scratches?  I feel the other night on the sidewalk and the back of my ring got scratched up.  The front has a few scratch from over time as well that I wouldn't mind getting rid of as well.

I went in last tuesday to get my ring redipped because they told me that it takes two weeks to send it out.  It is from Zales.  When I got there to send it out, they told me it would be back for 3 weeks because teh store is in the middle of remodel.  Grr!  So i had her clean it for me and put it in the box with my band.  I have a bad reaction with my ring when I use the soap at work - and i wash my hands at least 15 times a day, I am a preschool teacher.  My skin gets very raw and cracky and sometimes will bleed.  I will not wear my ring again until the reception on the 7th so that my finger will heal and look normal in pictures.

I took mine in earlier this week to get refinished. It'll either be done today or Tuesday she said. I didn't know how long it would take and since I'm leaving for the wedding a week beforehand, I didn't want to wait too long then find out it's too late to get it back in time. I also had to get my wedding band inspected this month anyway, so I took it in when I got that done.

Amyelise Refinishing can take out light scratches. I'd specifically ask them to polish it before dipping it. You can't normally polish a white gold ring because it take the finish off, but since the finish will be replaced anyway they'll be able to. If it's a very deep scratch, it may need to be smoothed with additional gold, but I've never personally seen a scratch that deep and in two years in the jewelry industry I saw plenty of damaged rings!

I need to get my e-ring re-dipped and soldered to my wedding band. I also think I need to slightly alter my wedding band a bit. Any ideas on how long that might take?
