Reply cards?

In 2012 are we still doing reply cards? Im so confused. I guess email is not a proper etiquette? I had someone proof read my invites and she recommends I still do reply cards. I was thinking of making a special email address just for replies? I didint really want 75 reply cards coming back here. It just seems like so much. If I do reply cards how do i do it for blended families? How do I address for example His grandmother in her household is one Aunt. and 3 cousins? How do you fit all that on a reply card? Thats 4 people. Email just seems simpler. For the self address envelope to return do you add the stamp too? Thanks for any help. Can you tell its my first wedding, Ive ever planned...

Re: Reply cards?

  • Yes, add the stamp.

For reply cards, we left them blank, for people to fill in themselves who is going.  Our inner envelope reads 'Aunt, Uncle, Cousin 1, 2, 3'  or whoever.

Setting up an email sounds great, but believe it or not there are people who don't have their own, only use a work email, or who don't check it daily, use it, etc.  Wedding and formal events are still sent through the mail usually.

  • I would say, "please initial next to each choice" or something like that in case you need to know who is eating what.  You may need to indicate that on your place cards.

  • Agree with PP, and yes, that wording sounds fine to me.  I believe ours are less formal (buffet dinner) and read

Your reply is requested by September 28th, 2012

  • To me, reply cards are a must!! I wouldn't trust everyone to email their RSVP. Like PP said, not everyone has access to email. You can make them very simple, but definitely add a stamp to the return envelope that you have also addressed. That way, the person simply has to indicate their RSVP and stick it in the mailbox.

  • I'm with you on the disbelief that it's 2012 and we're still doing this. I bet brides in as soon as 2022 will all be doing RSVPs online.

  • Reply cards are still required.  Some of my guests don't have internet (grandparents), so they wouldn't be able to respond by email.  I think you're more likely to get more responses if you have them send it via mail and not email - people will have the physical reminder of what they need to fill out and drop in the mail.

Everyone over 18 should get their own invitation, even if they're living at the same address (this has been a point of contention with my FI).  The inner envelopes are not required, but a lot of people do them.  They are different than the RSVP envelope - they hold the entire invitation package; it looks nice to keep it all in an envelope that hasn't gone through all of the post office machines - but absolutely not necessary.
  • ok thanks guys for your help...I think im a little less confused..I really just need to open my invite box and see whats in there..
