October 2012 Weddings

Am I being a bridezilla?

My fiance's brother's girlfriend (serious relationship, they have a kid together who will be the rignbearer) just told me she is going to order a dress in pearl pink and wanted to know if I liked it....

I looked up the color but it is such a pale pink and so close to white and I really don't want her sticking out in the front row like that at an October wedding!  I guess I'm just afraid she will show me up (she's ten years younger and skinnier!)

Am I being super crazy bridezilla?  Or can I gently ask her to pick a different color?  How do I go about doing this?  Why would she pick pearl pink!?>!?!?!  argghhghghgh!!!

Re: Am I being a bridezilla?

  • Does it come in other colors? If so, maybe just suggest that another color would look fabulous on her instead.

  • i agree with pennylg! ask her to pick a different color bc no one except the bride should be wearing white (or close to white)

  • What color are your bridesmaid dresses?  If your wedding colors are darker, richer colors, suggest that something so light might wash her out and you want her to stand out or some crap like that haha.

Besides that though, is it really that bad?  Did you just see it online?  It might not be that pale in person.

  • Well, she asked your opinion, so she opened the door...tell her how you feel!!

I'd be straight with her, maybe she doesn't know its in poor taste to wear white to a wedding. "That's a really pretty dress, but I think it might be to close to white for a wedding, plus you look so nice in x color!"   I'd put the color bit at the end so it softens it.

  • If she's asked your opinion then tell her how you feel, politely of course.

  • I just saw that you posted this on Etiquette too, I think the reason you're getting such different answers is you didn't say that she asked your opinion over there... I will say if she didn't ask I wouldn't say anything, if it does look white she will look bad not you, regardless of is she is "ten years younger and skinnier" Also it might help if you posted a picture of it.

I really wouldn't worry about her showing you up. Let her wear what she wants. You will still be the bride and be beautiful no matter what. I do think telling her not to wear pale pink because it's too close to white is a little on the bridezilla side.

  • Honestly, my mom was going to wear a soft pink because it's flattering, but she found a different dress.  If you want to suggest another color you could, but I really wouldn't be worried about it at all.

  • She asked, so yes, technically you are within your etiquette "right" to tell her that you are threatened be her age, size and dress. That's the admission, yes? Olive, this is your day to shine. Your day to be the beautiful bride. Your day to again take away FI's breath like never before (well, maybe since the first time ... Or the last time ...) In the end, this day is the celebration of your love and commitment to one another. He isn't going to care what she wears - stark white, pale pink, crow black. She is not a threat to you, I promise. She will not outshine you. She won't show you up. Whatever you decide to say or do is really fine! It's your decision! And bridezilla it us not. but, it may not really be worth the breath now that you had a chance to exhale.
