small rant - and checks! (sorry - kinda long)

Okay...so I am doing all kinds of DIY projects for the wedding.  I am a very crafty person and I come from a family of people who make pretty decent livings in the art world.  Little background...My mom and I used to have a great relationship and it kinda all went south when she divorced my dad of 27 years.  We haven't been the same since, but in May, my dad passed away and it has brought me and my mother closer together...now mix that in with all the wedding stuff to do and our releationship has never been better....so we are doing all these DIY projects and they are coming out great!  All the sudden, FI says.....he doesn't understand why we have to make everything so complicated with all the DIY projects (that he isnt working on any of them...and thats fine...this is my DIY wonderland and Im having fun) and he isn't getting a say in any of it and its like me and my mom have taken over the whole wedding and his opinion doesn't count.  His opinion does count, but in the same breath, he doesn't seem to really care about what were doing, or want to help or anything, but does want to complain that we are making to much work.........erg...

Sorry...I feel a little better....

Checks!  My mom brought over the invitations last night and I got the stamps and we are ready to assemble them this weekend and put them in the mail!!!!! 
I only have my jewlry left to buy and I'm getting a girls shopping day this weekend!!! So excited!!!
Doesn't seem like a lot of checks, but I think the invitations being on the way to going in the mail is making me WAY less stressed, so it feels like lots of checks......

I'm glad you and your mom have a good relationship now:)  I can understand wher your fiance is coming from though...have you asked himif he wants to help?  I suggest you keep asking him for his opinion on the DIYs (and if he thinks they;re ok) and asking if he wants to do anything.  you could also try explaning that you are finally getting along with your mom, but are sorry if he feels left out.  and that you really enjoy DIY and it;s not making extra work for yourself.

no no...I appreciate the advise...we have been together for four years and we NEVER argue...so this just seems out of left field....I told him....he knows how I am...I can't just make dinner when we entertain, I have to have apps and drinks and dinner and dessert and I always go overboard with stuff like this...so it was just strange to me that he is surprised by my DIY craziness.....thanks for the advice...  thats why I posted on here!!!!

I love that you and your Mom have a close time again, after such a rift! My family is such a treasure to me, I wish that for everyone. I don't know what to say about FI - I don't think mine has any concept of how hard I am working on the wedding and coordinating all the lists and wants and budgets - I ask his opinion and he says he doesn't care, just take care of it. Then he says I'm not including him. Pick a side!   I decided this is just normal and men are crazy!
