Choosing a menu

Did anyone else find this incredibly complicated?!  Our venue only has a few different menu options, so I thought it would be simple, but we are trying to schedule our tasting and now we can't decide which option (different levels of plated meals and a buffet option) we want to go with.  I'm a little frustrated because I have run through the numbers several times up til now, but my FI just finally went through the options the night before we are to make the decision and now we are up in the air.  I just kind of want to scream!!

Re: Choosing a menu

  • VERY frustrating. I kind of thought I'd go with the buffet type option because I thought it'd be easier to decide what to go with, but its NOT. We are probably re-routing back to our orginal plan of a served dinner but then again, I feel like I"m making so much more work for my self when the RSVPs come back. Frustrating about the FI just now looking through everything, I feel you on just wanting to scream.

In the end, I feel like it doesnt matter what you serve. I know that I don't really ever remember what I ate at someone's wedding ( a few AMAZING dinners stands out and one AWFUL one..that was more taste, not so much what was offered).  I just remember how much fun I had.  Maybe thinking that way will help you?

    Good Luck!!

  • I am thankful our venue ONLY does buffet options... But we still have 3 different choices!  The one we were set on has pork in it though, and I worry about it not being prepared right, someone getting sick, etc., etc....

SO now, back to square one.  UGH.

  • I thought food-festing was the best part of the process. Then again I like to eat :)

I think that in the end, as long as its yummy, what you chose wont matter. Good luck!! Hang in there!
  • We are doing a buffet option and had basically planned the menu before we picked the venue. For me the venue/catering has been quite stress free thus far.

  • We were actually really happy with the entree options that our place provided us with, and selected them right away at our tasting. What was harder was our cocktail hour food, because we (well, I, ha) was being really picky about it, which is funny given there's a chance we won't actually eat any of it. But with those, there was a lot of back and forth.

  • We've already done a tasting with the only outside catering option and it was nice.  The actual golf course asks us to select the meal option first because the more expensive options have different entree options....i.e. Meal 3 has filet and a fish dish, whereas Meal 1 only has a chicken, beef and vegetarian option.  The buffet is more expensive and doesn't include app.  Even my MIL who was very adamant about buffet said we should go with plated after reading through the options more.  I am much more budget oriented than my FI, so that is why I find it so stressful and he just now realized why.  I called to find out if we could postpone the tasting and just meet with her about all of our questions first.

Lehc, I couldn't decide on the appetizers either.  My FI had a bunch that he wants to try and I told him that I don't really care because the reality is most likely we won't be there early enough to even get any!

Ultimately I just want to pick an option that we are happy with buget-wise and that will satisfy our guests so they can boogy down!

  • I did some negotiating and got them to do a custom buffet.  And by negotiate I just asked if they would work with me.  Not only did they let me customize my buffet for the same as the mid-level price, but they are doing plated gluten free meals to my family memebers with allergies for a dollar more.  It's totally worth hard-balling them a bit!
