dress question

Here are the types of random things I think of while sitting here doing nothing!!!!! Everytime I have put my dress on, it has gone on over my head....that won't work on wedding day as my hair will be done....do I step in it? If yes how do I do that with that big ass slip? Also...using the bathroom....did you turn backwards and go or how did you do it?

Re: dress question

  • I've always stepped into mine. But I'm not wearing a slip! If you do step into it, I'll tell you what the alterations lady told me EVERY time: do not step into it with your shoes on. She said she's seen way too many dresses get snagged on a heel.

Not sure about the bathroom though! haha I was in a wedding where the bride had a ginormous dress and it took 2 bridesmaids to hold it for her each time. :-)
  • Good idea with the shoes... I was going to put them on before the dress so my MOH did have to help. I can't find my feet after the dress is on!!!! But I guess she isn't off the hook for that one!!!!
  • I stepped into mine... not sure I didn't have a slip the petticoats and slips were built into mine

My maid of Honour and I had a routine down to a T to go bathroom... she would lift up multiple layers of petticoats etc (5 in total I think LOL) then GOOSE me HAHA at which point I could pull down my panties do what I had to etc... and finsih...  then up and dress back down LOL..

good think I have known her for like FOREVER lol
  • I just step into my dress too and I'm not wearing a slip.  What I've seen done when the dress has to go over the head, is two or three people hold the dress up high enough for the bride to go in from underneath and they just try to hold the opening wide enough to not touch your hair.  It also helps if you raise your arms up and kind of hold the dress open as you go into it too.  You should be fine doing it this way as long as you aren't wearing your veil yet; you'd have to put it on after (if you are wearing one, that is).

  • Oh and for the bathroom, I would just go backwards.  I'm a pretty private person and I would not feel comfortable having help.

  • I plan on putting my dress on first. My girlfriend is doing my hair at home anyway. As far as peeing.... ugh I dunno, guess I'll test it out!

  • I also just stepped into my dress, so im not any help there.

My MOH, who is also my sister, helped me hold up my dress and i slid off my underwear to one foot and then sat on the toilet backwards, did what i had to do and then put my underwear back on and then pulled my dress back down, it being very fitted i had to lift it up higher than my thighs to pee...luckily we only had to do it 2x the whole night....i couldnt face forward, too much dress....
i wouldnt worry too much about it, if you have help you should be ok
  • It depends on your dress and your bodyshape, actually.  Unfortunately for me, 'stepping in' was not going to work.  My dress was altered to accomodate my itsy waist, which my humongous behind was NOT going to fit through.  No way no how.

So I had to dive head-first, which really did nothing to bother my hair (trust me, if any hair was going to be bothered, it was my styling).

As far as the last question, don't be too proud to ask for help if you have a large skirt.  I was dumb and tried to lone-wolf it with the reverse method, and almost fell several times.  Much more embarrassing to be fished out by people after the fact, imo.

  • Thanks ladies....I think I am going to have to dive in head first and hope and pray it doesn't mess up my hair. As far as the bathroom is concerned....I am not afraid to ask for help!!!! My MOH is awesome and we are best of friends so she will have "fun" getting to help with those duties!!!!
  • I couldn't step in, so mine went over my head! My MOH went in from the top and found the opening for my head to go through. Another BM kind of moved the train out of the way so I could just slip it over (yeah right, it's super poofy!), but it worked well and didn't mess with my hair at all! I didn't pee at all, so no help there. I would have been screwed!! I was wearing spanx that came up mostly to my boobs, and my dress was a super tight corset...so there would have been no way to get it down and then back up.

  • I had all 5 bridesmaids and my mom help me get the dress over my head (and I had a pretty full skirt/slip) - made for some great pictures!

For going to the bathroom - I only went once at the wedding, and I had my sister help me hold it up. I was able to go by myself when we got back to the hotel, but I didn't want to risk wearing a wet dress during the reception.
