Re: QOTD 4/17

  • Full time jobs . . . I've had four.

First I was a bank teller. I started there part time while I was finishing school and then went to full time once I graduated.

Then I moved about 2 hours away and became an administrative assitant at a veterinary office.

Eight months later I moved back home and became a legal secretary. Like the work, hated my boss, hated the place I worked. Hated, hated, hated it. Boss smoked in the office, he was a horrible, mean, obnoxious man . . .

I looked for another job for the next 2 years while suffering at that law office and then found the job where I currently work. Now I'm the court recorder at the Circuit Court in my county. I work literally 100 feet away from that law office and have not stepped a foot back in there since I left. Yay! Lol. :)

  • Starting from when I was 16-17 and in Highschool, i worked at Shoprite (grocery store), then when i went away to college, i worked at Price Chopper (grocery store), then i worked at DSW while in college and while getting my Masters.
Then I became a substitute teacher after I graduated.
My first real full time job was working in a middle school as a guidance counselor for a little over 3 years before I became unemployed=(
  • My first job was as a swim coach at a summer camp.

My second job was as a reading tutor while in college.

My third (and maybe final?) job is as a high school English teacher.  I also tutor part-time in the summer.

I've had 4 full time jobs - Two reception, one reception/accounting and now I'm just in accounting/HR.

I worked at McDonalds when I was 16 (worst 5 months of my life) and have had many many baby-sitting jobs growing up.

Oops.. 5 full time jobs. Forgot the summer that I was a camp counsellor.

  • First Job (that wasn't babysitting): I was a secretary at an real estate appraisal office from my freshmen year of high school through senior year.

College: I worked as a lab tech for a while in the bio department. I worked as a teacher's assistant in a 1st grade classroom and then as an assistant in a daycare center.

After college: I worked in an aquarium for a while. This is still my favorite and if I could have made decent money with a bachelors degree I would have stayed. I miss the penguins. I also worked as an organic chemist for the military in research and development.

Now: I'm a full time graduate student in biology. I teach undergraduates, I do a crap load of research on honey bees and I take classes. I also work longer hours then I did at any of my other much higher paying jobs. I keep trying to tell myself that the phd is worth it...

  • Full-time jobs, only two, but if you're counting ANYTHING where I had to apply, interview, and was paid (so basically everything past babysitting, ha), then eight. First, I was the receptionist at my church the summer after I graduated from high school. It was incredibly boring and was long enough ago that they didn't have Internet or anything so they just let me read at the front desk for most of the day.

  • My very first job, which I had for 5 consecutive summers, was as a counselor at the Girl Scout camp I'd been going to since I was a kid. I didn't work a lot in college because my program was so demanding, but I did some very parttime work building sets for the theatre department and doing phone surveys. Later I picked up work at both my internship sites, monitoring supervised visitation at one and providing child care for parents attending a parenting class at the other. When I finally finished school, my first 'grownup' job was as a therapist for teens in a group home. That job was TOUGH and I left after 18 months. The job I left for was my dream job. I was a school social worker in an elementary program for kids with mental health and behavioral problems. Then the state came in and told them to cut the number of students in the program...and the staff accordingly. Since I had only been there 7 months and had no seniority, I was laid off. I managed to find a job at an adult mental health clinic pretty quickly after that, and I've been there almost 3 years. Right now I do diagnostic evaluations and new patient orientation.

  • My first job was an algebra tutor. I don't know how I got that gig. I hate math (which is why I went to law school).

I went on to do workstudy for the Dean at my college. Then I waited tables for a year after college. Then I got a legal secretary job while in law school and now I am a prosecutor and I worked part time at Ann Taylor until last year because I LOVED that 50% discount. SO....five jobs total.

  • My very first job was as a retail clerk/cashier at a store called Venture out in the Chicago suburbs.  It basically was just like working at Target.  I worked there for about a year, then worked at a Kindercare as a teacher's assistant for about a year also.  I started going to junior college then and was doing terrible in school, so my dad said get better grades or get a job and brought home an application from United Airlines.
So, long story short, I've been working at United since then - will be 24 years in July! Eek.
While I was on furlough a few years back I worked at Dollar/Thrifty rental cars, so I have had 4 full time jobs in the last 26 years. :)

  • I started working (AKA was forced to get a job by my parents) at 14.  I worked as a bus girl at big ski resort during the winters until I was about 19. Then I worked in the deli at the ski resort on the weekends throughout college and on college breaks until I graduated at 23.  I also worked the resorts summer festivals for most of those years as well.

The summer that i was 16 I was a chambermaid at a Hotel for Hasidic Jews. I HATED that job.

Throughout undergrad I worked as a substitute at a day care center.  When I graduated I got a full time job there as a teaching assistant.  I did that for 2 years or so.  During my grad school I picked up a part time job at the Dollar Store for a few months and Subway for 2 weekends- I quit very quickly because the boss was a crazy b!tch (as in expecting me to be able to close by myself - meaning cash out the register and take inventory after being showed 1 time, then yelling at me when something was done wrong)

I worked for a year and a half as a 1st grade teacher in VA and now I am a lead teacher at a head start center.  This will NOT be my last job.
