Readers Check-In

What's everyone reading?  Anyone just finish something great?  Anyone starting anything they're excited about?

I'm about 1/4th through Mockingjay.  Its been a slow start, I'm kind of annoyed.  The last book ended in such a rush, I feel like it came to a crashing halt with the start of this one.  I'm looking forward to seeing how the series wraps up though.  I've really enjoyed it overall!

I just started Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang... does that count? :) I also just bought Girls In Trucks, and all of my favorite classics. I have a bad tendancy to re-read my favorites over and over and over... All of the Anne of Green Gables books, Wuthering Heights, Little Women, The Secret Garden, A Little Princess.... I'm like a middle schooler.

I'm still making my way through the Outlander series (thanks RA!). The first 4 books were great. I'm on #5 now and can't get into it. I took a little break with it and read A Happy Marriage, which made me cry my eyes out (in a good, bittersweet sorta way).

I've been reading the Pilot's Wife.  My co-worker saw me reading it and said "Oh, my wife just read that.  That's where they think the husband blah blah blah at the end, right?"

...and I said "I don't know.  I'm only on the second chapter.  But thanks."

Now I don't know if I want to bother finishing it.  hehehe

Bean--I had the same problem with Fiery Cross.  I never finished it.  I was thinking about getting it on CD from my library and listening to it while I'm at work.  When I'm not writing scripts, I can listen to it.  My MOH (who got me hooked on them) says that this book sets up the big thing that happens in the next one, so it's necessary... but it's not as exciting as the others.

I'm still reading A Game Of Thrones in the A Song of Fire and Ice series.  But I've taken a break from it and I started reading a Carly Phillips book.  FMIL somehow ended up with a bag of 25+ romance novels because she can't say no... and I ended up with half of them.

Amer--I HATE it when people do that!!  One of my "friends" from high school did that to me with The Sixth Sense.  I was on the phone with her, and I said that I have to go because we're going to see that movie, and she says "You know that...." and spoiled the entire movie.  I was so mad.

I started reading The Blind Side but just can't get into it.

So I started Think Twice by Lisa Scottoline which is more my type of read. I am better with short chapters, I sometimes think I have ADD.

RA - I'm 14% in according to my Kindle and literally nothing has happened. If I didn't have my ridiculous literary crush on Jamie, I don't think I would be able to finish. Also, it says on Amazon the next book in Song of Fire and Ice is coming out this summer. I'm really excited about that. I might have to go back a re-read all of the previous ones to remember what's going on.

Amer - That really stinks! Maybe you can pretend that he was wrong though?

That is my next book to read!

Have you read any of her books before? I like her books that have characters from Rosato & Associates. Probably because I have been working for a law firm for the past 10 years!

Bean--I stopped about halfway through.  And at this point...it's been so long since I've read it, that I would have to start over again.  I have A Breath of Snow and Ashes (the next one) and Echo in the Bone (the most recent one) but I can't read them because I haven't finished Fiery Cross yet!

My friend said that right after where I stopped is where things start to pick up.  I think you know what "event" is coming... THAT part is good.  But I wouldn't know, because I haven't gotten there.  Also I don't remember a lot about the Revolutionary War from school, so some of the politics are lost on me.

Wait- this series you guys have been reading is placed around the revolutionary war? I might be totally in to this. I love historical novels. When I was younger, that's all I would read. (Actually, I just downloaded one of them to my phone.) Name of the series again, please?

I also JUST downloaded Last night at Chateau Marmont, chasing harry winston & Breaking Free. :)

Paprika - It's the Outlander series. It starts out in Scotland, but then moves to colonial America. It's really good (except for this one book, apparently)!!

Paprika--if my friend ever returns mine... you can borrow the first one to see if you like it, only if you promise to give it back to me.  It's my favorite book ever.

It starts out with the Jacobean era in Scotland (Battle of Culloden) and then it goes through to the Revolutionary War (eventually...).  It's an EXCELLENT series, but the 5th book is tough to get through.

Sounds great, RA! I promise. I borrow my sister's books all the time and she basically makes me sign a contract to read them. And we live in the same house.

I finished Water for elephants.  LOVED it!

I started VC Andrew's Black Cat, it's the second book of the gemini series.  I'm at the point where I don't know where it's gonna go, but my heart breaks for the main character.

BUT I got a nook!!!  I went to play with the kindle and liked the nook way better.  So I downloaded The lady with the dragon tatoo and been reading it while FI watches shows I don't care for (Ax men, pawn stars, etc etc).  I also downloaded Hunger Games since a few of you liked it.  So those will be my cruise books!

RA - haha I love the touch screen at the bottom.  It sold me on the nook.  I kept reading reviews all last weekend trying to decide (all said kindle was the best), but I was like pretty color touch screen.

I've been on a huge reading spree lately. In the past week I've read 'Tough Customer', 'Thin Rich Pretty' and 'Hunger Games'. I'll be starting 'Catching Fire' tomorrow while I patiently wait for 'Anna and the French Kiss' to come in to the library (its on my goodreads group for this month).
