Does anyone plan to make their own bouquets and boutineers? I had my flower appointment last weekend and just for the minimum 3 bouquett, 3 boutineers and flowers on stands where we will get married came to $1000. That is crazy?! 

So I went to Sam's and talked to the floral lady. She said its very easy to make your own. I bought three bouquett for $24! Took them home and put them together. I think it came out well. 

I have looked online and found ways to improve. I've got the wire and tape I didn't have the first time and want to try again. I think it all come together fine but I am a little nervous. I feel there is too much presure for everything to be perfect and I'm trying to let that state of mind go. I think the flowers look pretty and that should be enought for me. I plan to make the center pieces also. Trying to have a low key wedding since we are paying for everything ourselves.

Is anyone else doing their flowers theirselves?

I made my FG's bouquet, and my toss bouquet, and it wasn't too bad.  We got a great deal on a local florist though and my bridal bouquet, 3 BM bouquets, 2 bouts, and 3 wrist corsages will come to just under $300.

A friend of mine made her bouquets, corsages, everything, and said each piece came out to about $9.00 each.  She's crafty though!

I have decided to make my own bouquets, bouts and corsages. I just can't see paying that much money for flowers. Even silk flowers are expensive. I just want simple all rose bouquets anyway, so it should be pretty simple. I think your bouquets look great!

Wow! I feel like I'm getting off with a steal now! My quote for 4 bm bouquets, my bouquet, 8 bouts, 2 mothers corsages and 1 fathers bout. Plus 4 grandmothers corsages and 2 grandfather bouts. Also 8 floor length pew bows, an altar arrangement and ferns....578. WITH delivery setup! And they'll come get their ferns afterwards because we're just renting those! Btw your bouquet looks great!

You can totally do your own flowers.  I don't have any training from anything other then youtube and some books and I do wedding flowers on the side.  It's really not as hard as it seems.  Just be sure you get the right things to keep it all together - the floral tape, wire, pins, etc.  Watch videos until you can't take it anymore and you'll be set.

Your quote seems pretty high, but it also depends on the flowers you told her you wanted or what flowers she suggested you use.  Some flowers are wholesale $5 per stem while others can be less than $1 per stem and she is still going to put her mark up on those.  Also, if you are getting stringed flowers, that can take a lot of time, so she's probably charging you for the labor time it would take to put those together.

I could not get a quote below $1,200 for flowers, so I also will be doing them myself. Thanks for the tip ystaalenburg! I'll be youtubin my life away. Hopefully my work comes out as pretty as yours photochick2013!!!
