Music for Reception

Hey, ladies! So my brother has all of the equipment to be the DJ for our wedding, so we're going with him rather than paying for a DJ to save on some money. The only thing that makes this a little more difficult is that he doesn't have the song bank that a DJ does and I am having to go through and actually figure out what songs we want to play during 1) dinner itself and 2) for dancing after dinner. I've found a list of 200 popular ones that I'm going through and seeing what I might want to use, but I would love some input from you guys!!

Re: Music for Reception

  • I was at a wedding and these were a few of the songs that got everyone dancing.

    Cupid Shuffle
    Billy Jean
    I Gotta Feeling
    Chicken Dance
    Baby Got Back
    Boyfriend (that surprised me)
    Single Ladies
    Livin on a Prayer
    All Summer Long

  • Maybe for dinner you could just put on clasical or jazz-y type music? I love the Vitamin String Quartet. People will be busy eating and talking so I don't think you need to stress too much over dinner music.

  • @ PetalPockets I just added your list to my Music list!
@xxjen I would suggest putting together many different songs like 3 times the amount you need and having your brother work them in as he sees fit, I think the great part about a DJ is because they kind of work with the crowd, I would give your brother a bank of song ideas lables (get the dancing started) (slower because we are eating) (some to please the elderly) and such like that this way you can have all the songs you pick. I would also recommend looking at the top 100 songs a few weeks before your event!

  • Thanks for the link !

HEres the one I worked off of at first hope it helps :o) going through your link now !

  • I've been writing down songs as I hear them on the radio and making sure I write them down on my master list for the reception...but for us during the cocktail hour and during dinner, I want them to play slow/love songs from the 50's & 60's, which would be more low-key and the older generation would probably appreciate it.
