October 2012 Weddings

Stationery

I know that I need to get invitations and placecards made, but are programs and menus required?  I don't think I've been to a wedding that had those, not that I've been to a lot of weddings though.  I'm just not a big 'little details' kind of person.  I'm more of a package deal kinda girl. :)

Re: Stationery

  • Menus aren't necessary if people choose their entrees when they RSVP or if you are doing a buffet.

Programs are nice if you're doing a church ceremony. We're doing programs with information about the mass (responses, songs, prayers, etc.). Not a lot of our friends and extended family are Catholic and we are so it helps to prevent them getting confused.

I don't have anything to add to PP, but I wanted to thank you for spelling stationery right!

It's almost always spelled "stationary" here on TK, and it's starting to look right to me!  :)
  • We're only doing menus because our guests aren't going to choose before hand but we're probably going to either just do 1 menu per table or put 1 at every other seat because I see no need in spending money making every single person the exact same  menu.  I know a few of the places I looked at did the menus themselves at a higher rate included in the package.
We're not doing programs though because we are having a very short ceremony.

  • We're doing both programs and menu cards.

I've never been to a wedding without a program.  I think it's a nice way of recognizing your bridal party, parents, etc.  Also, it's a nice keepsake (for the sentimental types out there).

We're doing menu cards for 2 reasons.  I found this idea on Pinterest and loved it LINK.  It's such a great way to say thank you to your guests.  Also, even though people will be picking their dinner option when they RSVP, I can't fit all the details of the different entrees on the little RSVP card.  For example, the RSVP card will say:  Stuffed Sole.  The menu card will give all the details,
    Shrimp & Crab Stuffed Sole
Fresh Grated Horseradish, Lemon Zest, Five-Grain Pilaf, Steamed Asparagus,
     Sauce Bavaroise

Also, it'll have what the first course is (we haven't picked that out yet), cake coffe, tea, Italian Dolce station, as well as our "Late Night Snack"
