Re: QOTD 7/17

  • I'm not a fan of that for us, but if I had a situation like the couple in the article where a lot of family was coming from overseas and we didn't get to see them often, it would be a cool option.  Maybe add on another week to the trip for just the two of us.

  • No way-- not for me, at least. With as stressful as wedding planning has been, I am so looking forward to a week of it just being FI and I and not having any other people to answer to! But I suppose if wedding planning had been going hunkey-dorey and the opportunity had presented itself, we might have thought about it. I have heard from a lot of friends who have gone on longer honeymoons, "Oh, we had a great time!... but after a few days, we wanted some friends to hang out with!"

  • No way! FI and I live close enough to our families that we see them on a fairly regular basis. When (if) we go on a honeymoon it will be a time for just the two of us. If the honeymoon would take us somewhere near a family member who couldn't make it to the wedding I'd be okay spending a day with them but thats about it.

  • Not for FI and I. Even if we had family coming in that we never see, we'd probably then do a wedding week/weekend with everyone then honeymoon. Some time for just the two of us on the honeymoon is important. We see our family and spend time with them all the time. Its rare that it is "just the two of us."

  • No thanks. My Dad's family is flying in from Germany but we're still leaving 2 days after the wedding. We get to see them every few years so it's not really a big deal for us.

If we were in the same situation as the couple in the article I might delay the honeymoon for a month or two and spend a week hanging around town with my relatives but I would NOT go on a honeymoon with family. Cue the stream of inappropriate comments.

  • Not for me!  We love vacationing with friends and family, but NOT for the honeymoon.  FI would love it though--not that we would serioulsy do it, but we've joked about taking our wedding party with us.

  • I would absolutely do this. I'd love to have another couple on the honeymoon to hang out with. It's not like FI and I are going to a private island where no one will be around us. There will be hundreds of other people at the resort, and it'd be cool to have someone we know.

  • I guess we sort of ARE doing this, though we're calling it a familymoon. I have a 9-yr-old daughter and we didn't want her to feel excluded, so we'll be taking her with us when we go to Disneyworld/ Universal Studios. It just made sense to us. If I were childless, then there's no way we'd want others tagging along on our honeymoon.

    To each, their own.

  • Not a chance!  I don't care if we'd be in different hotels, I want to spend my honeymoon with anyone but my FI (yes, I know other people will be there, but it's not like they'd be wanting to spend time with us).   If one of us had a lot of family coming in from out of town, we might wait a few days to leave so we could spend more time with them, but definitely would not take a trip with them.
  • Never heard that term before but we actually invited mine and his parents and his sister to go on a cruise with us for the honeymoon. I mean we'd be in separate rooms and don't have to hang out unless we want to so I thought it would be fun. They've never done anything like that but FI and I have..just not together yet.

  • No thanks. We take family vacations anyway. This one is for just the two of us.  :)

  • It's not for us. We have been looking forward to the HM almost as much as to the wedding and to have our families and friends join us would take some of the excitement away. I think it would start to feel more like a vacation than a HM and there are plenty of years to come for family vacations!

  • Yes and no.  I love vacationing with my family and it would be nice for there to be other people there. I've gone to DR before with 5 other couples and we were able to find alone time, there were 4 different restaurants and we chose to eat alone some nights....but on the other hand it  will be nice for it to be just FI and I and to de-stress from the wedding and get away.
We have a week in between before we leave for our honeymoon so that will give us time to see any OOT guests!
  • Funny, we just decided to go on our honeymoon with my fiance's sister and her husband. But we are pretty close with them and they never had one either. I think it'll be a lot of fun to have some fun people to hang out and experience it with. It's not like you have to plan your schedules and do everything together...
  • Well that's an...interesting....idea. :-) Not something FI and I would want to do, we're excited to be able to get away from people and have some alone time, but we're also pretty quiet and shy people, so we really enjoy the time when it's just us two.  But if you believe more the merrier or have friends you haven't seen in forever, maybe this would be an awesome thing?

  • I couldn't do it.  Even when we talked about going to an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean to get married we also talked about flying somewhere else for the honeymoon.

I do plan on meeting new people at the resort when we go though.  We did that when we went to Jamaica last year and had so much fun.  We even still hang out with one of the couples every once in a while.

  • He11 no! FI and I like our own time, and travelling with my Mom stresses me out. Instead of doing exactly what he and I want to do I/we would end up trying to make sure other people were entertained, and that is not at all what my honeymoon is about.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • No thank you! LOL I'm super excited about a week alone with my Future Hubby.  We said even if we can't afford to really go on a honeymoon that we'll at least get outta town & get a hotel for a few nights.

  • Heck no!  This is a vacation for just FI and I!  I don't want anyone else there.  We have the rest of our lives to take family vacations.

I think it is a great idea. I would never invite my parents though, just weird!!! We have talked about inviting a couple along with us b/c it would be so much more fun I think! We havent decided on a HM spot yet, so we havent said anything...but it is a definite possibility. I guess FI and I have been together for so long that it would be just boring being alone and around strangers all day.

  • Oh my goodness! This has been a recent topic of convo here! One of my good friends was a MOH recently and the bride and groom are doing this. They're spending 4 days alone in the Dominican Republic, then inviting friends to spend 5 days with them. It's definitely not something I could ever do. After the wedding, I want time for just me and my H. I see my friends all the time!

Oh helllll no.  Personally, I feel like the honeymoon is a time for you and FI to enjoy each other's company after you just got married - not for your family and friends to tag along.  I know people will be at the resort we're going to but it's an adults only (and couples only...you can't go as a single person) so most people there are there to enjoy the romantic vibe and enjoy paradise with their SO.  We are glad to meet new people on our HM (and we plan to) but it's not like we're going to be hanging out with them all the time and have it be a joint vacation.

I agree with PP: I have the rest of my life to take a vacation with friends and family.  This vacay will be for the 2 of us.
