October 2012 Weddings

Just found this board! (need some advice please)

I can't believe I didn't find my month board earlier!  (it may have helped me get on track sooner)

A few months ago I got a promotion at work and have been crazy with work so all wedding planning has gone by the wayside...until two weeks ago!  Wedding is Oct. 13th but the 2nd-7th I'm going to a conference in Houston so that won't be good for my productivity!

So far we:
-have sent out invites
-birdcage (that needs painting/decorating) for cards
-did the tasting/set menu...mom is making cupcakes...have DJ/Photographer
-Have a solid idea for escort cards and are ordering the materials to put it together
-Have dress/tux/all bmaids dresses and shoes (groomsmen tuxs still up in the air)
-Booked honeymoon!
-good idea of bridesmaid/flower girl gifts (have gotten somethings)

We haven't:
-figured out centerpieces or flowers AT ALL (debating what will look good w/venue but keeping budget in mind)
-scheduled any day of hair or make up
-isle runner
-not 100% sure of day of scheudle or if we want programs
-started on groomsmen gifts

I feel like I'm so far behind (and I am SURE there are a ton of things I'm not remembering)  Compared to all of you getting married around that time...how do I measure?  Do I need to kick my rear in high gear?

  • I think you are doing pretty darn good!
Time does fly by quickly though...

I DIY'd a lot of things... but I am on temp leave at work lol

I think you will be ok :D
  • Thanks a ton!

I keep having dreams that it's the day of and nothing is ready haha
  • Go ahead and book your hair and makeup.  You'll want to make sure you get an awesome artist/sylist and not just whomever is available.  This will also give you the opportunity to book your hair and makeup trials.

Other then that, I would take the rest one thing at a time.  I made a "monthly to do" list for July, August, September, and October, and so far its really helped keep me on track for what HAS to get done by month's end.

If your state has marriage licenses good for 60 days, I'd go ahead and get that this week.  Do you have your rings and is your dress ready?  Those are the biggies, IMO.
  • My dress is done! (other than I have two and can't decide which one I want to wear)  Both fit wonderfully!!
We both need our bands.  We've been looking...but not found anything wonderful yet.  I will put more of a focus on that.
I will look of IL marriage license rules.  I did when we first got engaged, but I can't quite remember.

Thanks for all of the constructive feed back! It really does help.

  • I would look into hair and makeup as well as your florist ASAP since those are vendors that still need to be booked. The rest isn't a big deal.

  • Looks good to me.  Definatly work on the florist and hair/makeup if you are planning on having that done.  What about transportation?  You might want to add that to your to-do list.  Unless your ceremony at the same location as your reception.
