October 2012 Weddings

Some more checks

Today, I made a second trip out to my parish to get some paperwork from the office (I need the numbers to contact the musicians for the ceremony) and for the second time their office was closed! Arrgh. Try again next week.

On Sunday, FI and I start our last marriage requirement- YAY. Then I went to two different bridal salons to try dresses on. First place I went to, first dress fits lovely and just needs a couple slight alterations and a hem and it was right in my price range- $158! It had really nice beading detail on it and looked really flattering. I am just worried about my kids pulling off the beading, etc. during the day of the wedding and I wonder if a dress with no detail like that would be better because of the kids... My kids are young so they are all over me. All the time. My FI says I should just go ahead and get the dress. The second place didn't really have a lot for me. A couple dresses in the half-off rack were on sale for $175-$200 but needed close to $100 in alterations.

There is a David's Bridal about 40-50 min from me and I might try there. I am trying to look online but I get worried about returns if I don't like it. The only dress left on my online list is one from Macy's, but I am pretty sure it won't fit as I know Macy's runs very small for most things.... I found a couple other dresses at DB online that I like, but of course they are "online only" and I just don't like that I don't know how they will fit.

Then I went to a florist, and I made an appointment for next week to discuss options and prices. I went to a bakery, but my kids were acting up, so I left. I was really hoping to talk to them about the groom's cake idea I have. I also went to a party rentals place in town, but she was busy working on a project that was due that night so I am going back there next week to talk to her more in detail about what she rents. I also found out my babysitter has a bunch of catering supplies - so I might be able to use her and her son as "faux" caterers during the wedding (i'd be paying them of course!)

So, today was a bunch of errands and nothing really was accomplished... gahhh !

Re: Some more checks

  • Hang in there! I'm a mom bride too, although my daughter is older, and I can imagine how tough it is with little kids! For your dress - I think you should go into the DB's store for as much time as you can spare, and try on some options in your size. I got my dress there and found their sizing & styles tend to be very consistent - so if you get a sense for what fits you in the store, it will likely be the same if you order online. Although watch out for one thing - the samples in the store get really stretched out from use and the real dress will be tighter on you.

Also have you tried consignment stores? Might get lucky and you can buy it same day!

  • I have glanced at consignment stores before, but I have not gone since we have started planning again.

It just bothers me that DB online charges $14.95 for shipping and then I will have to pay for return shipping - so we'll just guess and say another $14.95. That's $30 of my budget eaten up by shipping charges when it could have gone towards alterations. I really have zero room for error here.

Well, I will be heading off to DB today so wish me luck! :D
