One of two photographers?

FI and I are trying to decide on a photographer.  We are having discussions about who is within our budget and what we want from our photographer.  One thing it that I would like the photographer there from the beginning of the day when i'm getting ready, and I think it would be nice for there to be an assistant photographer so one person can be with me and the other can be taking pictures of FI and the GMs.

FI isn't convinced of the idea of having a photographer with him and the guys in the morning as there isn't as much 'getting ready' as I will be doing and they will all have digital cameras.  I understand where he is coming from, but also kind of want the 2 photographers.  Any ideas/thoughts?

Re: One of two photographers?

  • We plan to have 2 photographers but not so much for the getting ready. I will have one with me and possibly with the guys while getting ready but there really isnt much getting ready for the guys so im confident that someone could be taking pics with their digital camera or phone and I would get what I wanted there. I plan to have 2 because it helps you to really get all the important shots at your ceremony and reception. You will get different views with 2 photographers and you will also be able to have one shooting you and one shooting him during the ceremony as well as guests. That being said if you truly cant afford a second I would suggest finding someone who you trust to take pics as a second shooter. You will have to be open to the idea that they dont have the training a professional has but you will still end up with pics to go with your wonderful memories! Good luck and HTH!

  • I also wanted to get 2 photographers for the whole day. FI and his brothers (2 of his GM, not sure who the other 2 are yet) are very playful and I would love to have pictures of them just laughing and having a good time. FI thinks its really not important. my dad and FFIL will be with FI that morning as well and i think it would be nice to have some pics of ties getting fixed and things like that. Im going to try and do some convincing. Let me know what you end up deciding!

  • If you can swing it, having 2 photographers is a great idea. Like PPs said, its another professional/semi-professional angle. You don't have to restrict the additional shooter to your FI and GMs. He/she could go around taking shots of the decor/church/guests/etc. Or while one is shooting you and the BMs getting ready, the other could be doing more formal shots of the guys and/or family members to save time.

We are not having 2, because I think several people will have digital cameras and will be able to capture all kinds of perspectives, all though by no means as good of quality as a professional!!! We just are already spending more on photography than we planned, so adding another to the mix would be an additional expense. Plus our guy (MOH's dad) works alone and runs a very small business...I don't know if he even has an assistant or anything.
