My fiance and I are having a small wedding (30-40 ppl).  In fact we are not even having a big reception, just a dinner served in the church's fellowship hall after the ceremony.  Are we obligated to provide table favors and, if so, what do you suggest for something so small?  BTW...this is a 2nd marriage for both of us.

Favors are not a requirement - providing your guests with dinner and thanking them for coming is good enough. If they are something you really want to do, most people would suggest going with something edible instead of a random knicknack that probably won't get used. This is frequently candy, but I've also seen people give cookies, cake pops, maple syrup, candy apples, even alcohol. You don't mention your budget, but with a small guest list you do have the freedom to get more creative with favors without breaking the bank, because you don't need as many of them. Think about what your guests might like, or if there are any foods or drinks that have special significance to you and your FI, or that's unique to the area where you're getting married.

Nope...favors are not necessary....and unless they are edible, they're pretty useless.  They'll just get thrown away or left behind, so they're a waste of money otherwise.

No, you don't need to do favors. The reception is the thank you to you guests, anything else is gravy.

Nope favors are not necessary in any size wedding.  But edible is the way to go if you do.  For my friends wedding her aunt made really cute wedding cake or bride shaped sugar cookies those were a hit and would be easily done for such a small group..

I agree with PPs. Favors aren't necessary, but I think edible favors are the way to go. No one wants or needs a shot glass or candle with you and FIs name on it. If your going to spend money on favors, make it something that guests won't just leave behind on the table.

Our "favours" are cute little boxes I picked up at dollar store that are kind of like chinese take out boxes. I stamped a T (FI's last name starts with T) on them and will put them next to the candy buffet. Total cost for favours? About 40 bucks by the time we buy the candy and jars.
