Honeymoon/name change question

FI and I are honeymooning in December, mostly because of my work schedule. For those that are also honeymooning later, what are doing about name change?

My concern is my passport. Our wedding is the 27th and we leave on Dec 22nd for the honeymoon. My passport has my current name and I don't think I'll have time to change my passport with my married name before the honeymoon (unless I pay a ton more money). But I also don't want to wait until after the new year to change my name.....any thoughts or advice?

I wouldn't chance it with the passport.  Plus I wouldn't want to pay all of the extra rush fees.  I don't see a problem changing your name on your license and stuff after you get married and then changing your passport when you get back from the honeymoon.  I travelled on a passport that didn't match my SS card.

I hadn't even given that any thought. We are honeymooning in December as well and I just planned on using the passport I have. Maybe I'll call my travel agent and make sure it doesn't need to be changed.

I would call the US Passport Dept.  Its really not as intimidating as it sounds.  I had to call them about questions on my own passport, and it was surprisingly painless.  They are really going to be the ultimate authority on how things should match up.

Your passport has to match the name on the tickets - they won't accept a marriage license at the airport as proof of identity.  As Caroline said, you should really call the US Passport Dept and see what they say - their information will certainly be the most accurate.

We probably won't be taking an actual HM until next year so by then everything will be changed.  I doubt we'll be leaving the country so it won't matter anyway.

The name on all your travel documents has to match.  Leave your passport alone until you come back and book your airline tickets in your current name.  What other documents do you have to show?  I don't travel outside the U.S. much, so I honestly don't know...my last cruise was to the Bahamas and I only had to show birth cert. and drivers license.

Change your name socially after the wedding and legally after honeymoon

I am updating everything but my passport.  My passport will be my madien name that matches my airline ticket.  When we get back I'll update my passport.
