Hair ?

How are you doing your hair? Updo or down and natural?

I'm having a really hard time figuring this out. I have never liked updos on myself and am not usually happy with how they're done. I have naturally curly hair and it is short (about shoulder length). I'm also wearing a birdcage veil, or at least I hope I am once I figure this out lol.

I just had a trial with someone this past weekend. She did a good job and used my natural curls like I asked her to, but I'm just not totally comfortable with the updo.

On the other hand, I don't want to look the same as I do every day. I want to look "special" for my wedding . . .

Hope that makes sense. If you have pics of what you are doing I'd love to see them (especially naturally curly hair, short hair, vintage hair and birdcage veils). I've looked all over the internet and just can't find that perfect style.

Thanks.  :)

What if you pinned it back a little like in the link below?  That's a pretty vintage style that I think would work with a birdcage veil.  You could also do something similiar to this but with one side pinned back like the picture below.

  • I'm 100% going for an updo. I feel that weddings are a formal occasion and therefore call for something "a little extra." I don't mind half up/half down hairstyles, but I feel like when women have their hair completely down and pulled down around their neck(in front) it's incredibly distracting, especially when they're wearing a veil. I don't mind when it's pulled to just one side though.

This is what I plan to do:

  • No inspiration pics to share since I'm posting from my phone, but I'm definitely going with an updo. I love the back of my dress too much to cover or detract from it at all.

  • I debated about this for a while but decided to wear my hair down.  For me, wearing an updo, just didn't feel like "me."  Plus, I hate the way I look in updos and I get annoyed wearing them AND they hurt my head.  In high school, I always got updos for formal dances and I remember always checking my hair to make sure everything was in place...My hair always seems to fall out in updos and it pisses me off.  Also, my hair is long and thick, so it requires a shiit ton of bobby pins, which causes my head to ache by the end of the night... So yeah, no updo for me.  :)

I would like something like the below but with a flower hair piece on the side.

That's how they make me feel. I worked on my hair last night and think I may have figured something out that makes me feel more comfortable. I used to get updos done in high school for dances and then go home, take them out, and redo my hair myself because I never liked them lol.

Thanks all for your help.  :)

  • I rarely wear my hair up because I don't like my ears.  I think they stick out too much and I was picked on constantly as a kid because of them.  I'm sure the self consciousness is all in my head, but I'm just not comfortable with my hair up.

I decided on 1/2 up 1/2 down so that it hides my ears and so that my veil will have something to anchor to.  Here are some pics from my trial.

Note:  that is NOT my veil, just a random one they had at the salon.

I wouldn't do an up-do if you're not comfortable with it.  I did an up-do for my senior prom and was self conscious all night.  It wasn't much fun : (  I think you can look formal and glammed up without doing an up-do.
