October 2012 Weddings

UGH, really?! ROSACEA!

FI has had this rash on his neck/face for awhile now but the last few days it's gotten worse.  It's super itchy and gross.  He decided to go to urgent care tonight (he works two jobs, fitting in another drs. appointment just wasn't happening anytime soon.)

Well, turns out it's rosacea :(

UGH :( Poor guy.  He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in January and now this :(  I feel so terrible for him

And I'm probably a really really terrible person but I'm hoping it clears up before the wedding! :( I'm sure the photog can re-touch his face if it's super bad, but I don't want him to be self-conscious on our big day.

The Dr. was like "it gets better with age.  it could clear up by the time you're 50"

50?!  I was hoping for like...30!  FI is 24 (25 in November).  So, 50 is half a lifetime away

just NOT the news we were expecting.  thought it was just a simple rash that could be treated with cream.  nope.

he is taking the news like a champ. not phased at all.  i'm probably the only shallow person who immediately was like "omg what about wedding pics?!"

oh well. such is life.

Re: UGH, really?! ROSACEA!

  • I have rosacea on my right cheek.  It was pretty bad and my aesthetician told me to get to the dermatologist.  She gave me a prescription for a pill called Oracea.  It's VERY expensive ($100 for a 30 day supply there isn't a generic form yet) I take one pill every morning when I wake up and I can't tell you the difference.  My entire face has a better tone to it and the red spots I had are completely gone.  I have one or two little red guys here and there, but they are not as big and they don't itch anymore.  I notice a difference when I forget to take the pills.  She told me I will pretty much just have to live with it for the rest of my life :(

I do have small flare ups when I stress out (work and wedding stuff just made me have a lil flareup of one big sucker popping up).

I would consult a dermatologist, they will be more educated on this type of condition versus a regular doctor.

I know the cost of the prescription is outrageous, but your insurance may cover more, I had crappy insurance.  I actually ordered my last three month supply from Canada and it was significantly less!

Oh also, buy him a face wash that is a "calming" cleanser that will help!

  • oh and I wanted to add, that Rosacea doesn't usually clear up on it's own, if left untreated it can spread and get worse.
