DIY and Vendor Frustrations...BOOOO

So I made my own hairpiece a few weeks back.  It came out real well...at least I thought at the time.  I put it in my hair today and for some reason, I just totally wasn't feeling it.  I think the feather plume I attached to it just didn't look right in my hair.  Maybe it was too long?  I dunno...I felt like a rooster.  So I decided to make another one since I pretty much had all the supplies already - just used different feathers and made them not as big as the first one.  I get halfway through and I realize I really hate the way I made the feathers and how the whole hairpiece fits in my hair.  It just does not look good.  I'm thinking about scrapping this project and just buying one off of Etsy.  I'm just frustrated that I could have just bought the stupid hairpiece from Etsy to begin with, knowing I'm not a crafty person....Now I ended up spending MORE money than if I had just not tried to DIY this in the first place.  Grrrrr....

Another thing I'm pissed about is my cake baker is being so unresponsive.  I have asked her multiple times to get me this paperwork that is needed for my venue in order for her to be on the premises (my venue is strict with outside vendors and requires proof of insurance with them named as additional insured as well as signing an agreement form with the venue).  I had to follow up with her mutliple times in June to see if she was able to get to the paperwok (she was slow to respond to my emails).  When I got a hold of her she said she would be able to get me what I need by end of July.  Well, it's nearing the end of August and I have nothing.  I've followed up twice and still no response.  She mentioned before she has more than double the amount of work as last year and they are a small bakery....also, I know it's wedding season and they are super busy right now so I'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt but this is incredibly frustrating.  I have a wedding that needs to get planned too and things need to get done on a schedule!  I want to fire her and find someone else but I feel terrible....maybe I'm being too demanding?  She is a really sweet lady and she has been responsive at the beginning (before wedding season) but I just don't know how I can get things done if vendors fail to respond.

Anyway, I needed to vent.  Hope you all had a productive weekend with little frustrations!  Haha :)

  • One question about the hair piece. Are you sure that it wouldn't look good after you get your hair done? I admit if I stuck anything with a feather on my head it would not look good without the right hairstyle. ;)

As far as the bakery, I would do this the "old fashioned" way. Go to the bakery tomorrow morning. She will either work with you, or you will fire her. If she isn''t there, call her. If she has an associate at the bakery, tell them "Oh, she said I could pick up my paperwork today" (so they call her) and then you can be all like "I'm going to harass your customers until you get my paperwork" :P (okay, I might not go that far...) Emails are easy to get lost, so I would just call or or go right into the bakery to get this handled.

I would be worried the reason she hasn't responded is because she can't get the paperwork for some reason - which could leave  you high and dry without a cake if she doesn't give you enough notice.

Time to put the pressure on her :)

  • That sucks about the baker.  It should only be a quick call to her insurance agent to get the paperwork.  I had to do it all the time at last compay I worked for...I just called my agent, told him the company that need to be listed and he faxed the paperwork right over.  Your baker should be used to this, as a lot of venues require it.  Keep bugging her or fire her.  Good luck.
