First Fitting

Ok Ladies...Im getting married on 10/20/12, my bridal shop is telling me that my first fitting should be in July, does this sound right??  HELP!!

My dress, which I ordered in January, isn't even coming in until August... seems a little early to me!

I've called a few seamstress' and most of them have said July or August and my wedding is also 10/20.

My date is 10/20 as well and my dress is set arrive anywhere from June-August (6-8 months).  The store I ordered it from told me that they usually start alterations 2-3 months out (July-August).  This is in case they need to do more than one set of alterations, and keep in mind that is busy season for weddings!

That makes sense. Might be that that would be your first fitting. I think my 2nd fitting is 2 weeks before the wedding.

I already have my dress in alterations, but it is having major work done to it.  Also with my schedule, I need more time.  I started them in early October and they probably won't be done until the end of March, but again, this is more due to my schedule.  The alterations place could have had everything done within a month or two.  I would recommend going by August at the latest.

It depends but that sounds on par with mine...I ordered my dress in December and getting my dress in June.  I think around that time will be my first fitting.  I figured it might take a couple months or so to get the dress to fit perfectly and I really didn't want to have to stress last minute about alterations.

I have my dress already but don't plan on doing alterations until July or so. That way, if I lose or gain weight...I'll get appropriate alterations.

Hey.  Oct 2011 bride here.  I did my first fitting in late August for my Oct 15th wedding.  I had 3 fittings, the third one 9 days before the wedding and took my dress home that day.  Starting in July would have been fine if I was a consistent weight, but I had been wedding dieting, so I wanted to wait a bit longer ( I lost 10 lbs between 1st and 3rd fitting ).  The general guideline is 6-8 weeks out, but you can do earlier if you have a consistent weight and should maybe wait til you are closer if you are dieting.  Good luck!

I ordered my dress in July 2011 and it isnt coming in until July 2012.

Thanks so much ladies, yes i am also wedding dieting, though the dress looks amazing right now, and only needs a few nips and tucks if i didnt lose another lb, but i am trying lose some if i can, wanna look good on the beach!!

I ordered my dress in August 2011. I will be getting my dress in March. I think I should hold off on alterations as well. Thank you, ladies for all you helpful tips!
