Dress & Reception

I absolutely love my dress!!!  But the style makes it almost impossible to bustle (pic below)

.  They said I could only bustle it under the dress & have it button to the inside (hopefully I'm explaining that right).  And early October in Indiana it could either be in the 40's or 90's who knows.   So I do have a back-up reception dress.

I seen a post similar to this in another group & it got me curious.  How many of you are planning to wear your dress all night?  Do you have a reception dress to change into?

I'm wearing my dress all night. I thought about getting another dress for the reception but I really wanted to get every little bit of time I can with my dress on, because my ceremony is only going to be about 15-20 minutes max and my dress was over $700. I do not want to spend 20 minutes in a dress that I paid $700 for. :)

I'm going to wear my dress at least at the ceremony of course & through all the event stuff at the reception, first dance, f/d dance, garter toss, bouquet toss.  My reception dress is back up only.

That's my sister's dress! I don't have time now (gotta head to work) but I'll see if I can find a pic of how we bustled it for her.

I'm definitely wearing mine all night.  I'm pretty sure it will be comfortable enough and it's too pretty to take off :)

I'm wearing my dress all night. I don't know how bustling it will work-- something to figure out at my first fitting, which is why I'm bringing my MOH.

I'm wearing my dress all night.  It's too pretty and too expensive not too!

At my first fitting, my seamstress showed me 3 options for the bustle:
    1) traditional bustle, the bottom of the dress pulls up.and attaches at 3 points
    2) french bustle, the bottom of the dress tucks under
    3) combination of traditional and french - my dress is all lace and has a charmusse layer under the top layer.  In bustle option #3, the lace part is a traditional 3-point bustle, but bottom layer will be a french bustle.

I went with the combination bustle (option 3).  It looked gorgeous when she pinned it that way!

Here's a link that I found that shows pics of different types of bustles.  Maybe one or a combination of a few will work for you.

Its not that I don't love my dress.  I just know if I can't get a bustle that looks right & people step on it I'd freak lol.  This dress took my breath away & I love that its already at my Moms so I can go see it & try it on whenever I want.

I'm wearing my dress all night.  I wanted to change for the reception but my Mom didn't like that idea.  She thought I should get the most out of my dress.  What about a ballroom bustle?  I'm wondering if that might work with your style gown.

I will also be wearing my dress all night.  Fi did ask me if i was going to change into another dress for the reception and when I told him that would mean I would have to buy another dress he said 'oh well, nevermind' lol. Men!

Definitely all night.  Getting a second dress wasn't even an option for me, because I love my dress so much.  Hopefully your seamstress will be able to come up with a bustle idea for you!

</div><div>I'm pretty sure based on the link about the bustles, that she had a french bustle. It was a very hot day and there were two of us trying to quickly bustle this dress and we didn't really know what we were doing. We may have missed a button or two or maybe we were cockeyed (extra button on one end and extra loop on the other).  My tip is, when you go for your final fitting, make sure you take someone who will be bustling your gown on your wedding day. That way someone knows how it works. It looks really sloppy here but as the night went on the fabric relaxed a little and it looked better. You can also try smoothing it down some. </div><div>
</div><div>She didn't have any problems with people stepping on it once we had it up though if that's your main concern.</div><div>
    </div><div>I hope this helps. </div>
