NWR-I need some friendly advice

I am currently employed as a server at a restaraunt I will not name just to be safe. To
make a long story short, I am miserable. I am stressed all the time, hardly ever get to sleep and feel like crying everytime I have to go in. My mom thinks she can get me a job working in the call center at her workplace for over the summer, but I can only work there for 90 days since we are related. I would love to take the job, but I am worrried that I won't be able to find a new one after this one ends. I have worked seasonal jobs before and usually have no problem finding something else. What do you ladies think, is it worth taking the chance of not having a job, or should I just suck it up and stay where I am?

  • I would take the new job and start looking if you have never had a problem finding seasonal/new jobs. I have been there at a job that stressed me out and they treated me poorly and I would get upset almost every day leaving work because of one thing or another. I do not think it's worth it to stay in a job that stresses you out. It's one thing if you it's the only job you can get at the moment, but I say if you have one lined up... Go for that one! Being happy is really important in life! If you are happy, that will lead you to have better confidence, which will help in your life all around, in my opinion!
  • I voted to take the new job.  No job is worth that much stress, especially if you have options.  Like the PP said, take the job and while you're at it, look for other options, then you know you have 90 days to find something else.  if you find something better before that, kindly put in your 2 weeks.  By being fair in giving your "new job" 2 weeks notice, you'll be leaving in a way that won't end up making your mom look bad. Not saying that you would, but I had to throw that in there.

  • I don't know what the laws are in your state, but I would take th new job and if in 90 days you haven't found anything else can you go on unemployment insurance or something? Since you would be let go due to no fault of your own?

  • I agree with PPs, I would take the other job. Ninety days gives you three moths to look for another job. At least you will be leaving your job now with a plan. That is way better than just quitting the job because you hate it.

Something to think about tho... if in three months you don't find a job, or take one where there is a significant decrease in pay, are you financially able to take that hit until you are able to find something else? I'd hate to see you quit only to run into difficulties later on. That's my biggest concern on that end. I'm sure you have already taken that into consideration tho.
  • Take the new job but just a warning...going from waitressing to sitting at a desk all day is a huge drastic change...you would prob be tired by 90 days of no people interaction....or at least I am..

  • Take the new job. Start looking for another job to line up after this one right away. I would not stay in a place I am miserable with, its not worth it. Who knows, they might like you a lot and some how find a way around the "rules" to keep you and your mom there. :)  Good luck with your decision.

  • Take the new job. Life is far to short to be trapped and miserable in anything. So if you can get out and move on, DO IT!!!! Best of luck to you. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you find hapiness.

  • I was in your same position last year, I felt sick to my stomach every morning before going into work. I quit back in June and it was the best thing I ever did. I will warn you though depending on the company call center jobs can be horrible. Since you know when you'll have to leave just start looking early and you shouldn't have much of a problem finding something else.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies! It's so nice to be able to have an outside opinion on things. I am going to turn in the application for the job and immediatly begin looking for a job to take after that. As far as being financially stable if I don't find a new job right away I would be able to make it for a few months, but I would try to get unemployment if possible. Being a full time student make it hard tho because they gave my brother the run around when he had the same situation. I don't think the call center would be too bad, my mom said it's mostly just people calling in to place orders for auto parts.
