October 2012 Weddings

Food

We are still trying to decide and I know I've asked before but, what is everybody doing for food? Who is getting married outdoors and around noon? What are you serving?

Re: Food

  • Were getting married at 4pm We're just doing BBq and the trimmings....good ol' southern fare. BBq slaw potato salad baked beans and bread. Maybe some pasta salad...that idea just hit me. Buffet style. We wanted to serve a MEAL and not be outrageously expensive. I mean we're inviting over 200 people. And I prob have the smallest budget on the October board! We started out thinking we could do it for 2000 not including my dress...until we got to looking around at vendors.

  • Ours is BBQ but with a maryland fare aka crabcakes and crab dip. its buffet style as well. I meet with the cater this week to get the final total and officially sign the contract, Im excited I am about to have that big piece finally checked off my list!

  • We're having a dinner, so it's not quite what you're looking for. Our ceremony's late afternoon and hten the meal is starting at 6 PM, after a cocktail hour that has some little snacks and stuff, but nothing too much (I get turned off by cocktail hours with so much food that you're too full for dinner... maybe it's because I have no self control around food, ha!). But then dinner's a half salad/half soup combo, entree (four options, chosen on the RSVP, and I know, I'll probably want to kill myself in September for deciding to do it that way, ha!), and then wedding cake for dessert. The entree options are a beef, a chicken, and two vegetarian options.

  • Our ceremony is at 4pm outdoors and reception at 6pm indoors, all at the same location, however we are doing the 'firstlook' around 1pm, so we are trying to decide if we should have some type of luncheon for the Wedding Party and family who will be there.  We are leaving to get pictures at another location during the cocktail hour, but plan to have appetizers and a candy bar set up for the guests.  For our dinner, which the caterer at the venue sets up buffet style, we are having grilled chicken breast, garlic mashed potatoes,  mixed veggies with butter or cheese sauce, and a salad with a choice of 3 dressings.

Our ceremony is at the same place as the reception and everything starts at 5pm.  Immediately after the ceremony  (outside - tented) we will go to a "park" area at our venue and be served brie and raspberry bites and honey lemon shrimp skewers with Asti Spumoni.  Once the caterer "flips" the interior and tented patio of the venue the party will move back inside where we will be served a buffet of file mignon, grilled chicken, Asian salmon with a edamame cole slaw,  rosemary new potatoes, green beans with red peppers and mac and cheese (mainly for kids).  And of course there will be cake.......

How long will your reception last?  For mid-day I would think it might be a good idea to serve hors d'oeuvers - maybe 6 or 7 to choose from that way it won't be to light but not to heavy of a meal.  Are you serving alcohol at the reception?  Only reason I ask is bc if you are you may want to have something with some "stability" on the menu so your guest don't get "smashed" by accident.

Talk to you caterer, ours was really helpful when making the decisions about what to serve.

  • Our ceremony is at 5 pm, followed by a cocktail hour with some of our favorite spanish inspired appetizers. Dinner will be a fall vegetable salad with a choice of filet, chicken marsala or butternut squash cannelloni. Dessert will be wedding cake with an ice cream bar. We had considered a morning wedding with a luncheon, and would have done a soup and panini bar.

  • We're getting married at 4 pm with a 6 pm three course sit down dinner. Guests will have a choice of chicken kiev or some sort of beef that we haven't decided yet (and of course a vegetarian option).

My ceremony starts at 4pm and cocktails at 5pm so I'm not sure if I will help. Not as much food will be out at cocktail hour (fruit, veggies and one hor dourve which is chicken) will be passed. Dinner has a autumn salad (boursin cheese, dried cranberries, candied walnuts) with raspberry or balsamic vinagrette; pecan-encrusted mahi mahi and horse radish encrusted sirloin with rice pilaf, squas medley. Desert will be the wedding cake (2 layers of chocolate fudge, 1 layer of white filled with strawberry buttercream.

Our ceremony's at 4pm, with reception at a Mexican restaurant. Appetizers will be chicken & bean empanadas and cheese & spinach quesadillas. Dinner will be buffet with caesar salad dressing on the side (I hate all salad dressings), pasta salad (I'm not a fan, but for the English people who may decide they dont' like Mexican food), vegetable tamales, chicken enchiladas with red sauce, and shredded beef with corn tortillas. Also includes sides of sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole, salsa, and Spanish rice and refried beans. We've already done tasting, I'm a lil drooly now thinking about it!
  • Our ceremony will be at 4:30.  There's about a 10ish minute drive to the reception venue (a covered pavilion) from the church. I've never been to a wedding with a cocktail hour and we're not doing one. Dinner will be a buffet starting probably around 6:30. We haven't chosen what we'll be eating yet.  The venue won't do a tasting more than 3 months before the event.
