Tacky or Resourceful?

What do you think about using aisle decorations as centerpieces or vice versa? I want to get those tall glass vases, fill them with water, put cranberry sprigs in them, and line the ceremony aisle. Then, after the ceremony, I want to move the vases to the reception venue, put floating candles inside with the cranberry, and use them as centerpieces.

Thoughts? :)

Re: Tacky or Resourceful?

  • I think that's a great idea as long as you have help to move them.  The only thing I would worry about is if they were really tall and held a lot of water, they may be too heavy to carry.  Maybe you could just not put the water in them until they are moved to reception space...

  • I don't think it's tacky at all.  We're re-using our bridesmaids bouquets as centerpieces (my bouquet will decorate the sweetheart table).  Our cocktail hour is in a different place from the reception so we'll be able to set it up before the guests get there.

ystaalenburg- i like the no water idea. does make transport easier!

lenergyrlah- flowers are so expensive, so that's a great idea!
  • Any re-using is resourceful and environmentally friendly. Do it!

P.S. I LOVE your epic in your sig. You two are cute together.

  • We are using our centerpieces in the ceremony too. So of course I don't think it is tacky! Haha..

  • No not tacky! You're doing it right!
  • Definitely not tacky.  Our florist actually suggested this!  We're getting married and having the reception at the same venue so it's easier to move them from the ceremony to the reception.  If your reception is somewhere else, it might be more difficult but your florist should be able to take care of it.  Just ask them logistically how they can do it. If they are a good florist, they can figure it out.

We're actually gonna do the tall glass vases with submerged flowers down the aisle with floating candles.  For the altar, we're using tall birch branches and submerged flower vases at varying levels on bases around it.  Everything in the ceremony will be moved down to the reception room and utlized as centerpieces or decor on other tables (like the cake table).  I don't think what we have in the ceremony will be enough so we still have to have some more vases, but this way, the ceremony decor gets more use of it.  No use paying for that for only 30 mins.

Our florist also suggested what a PP suggested: using the bride and bridesmaid bouquets on the head table in vases and that can also work as centerpieces.  Our florist is going to provide vases for us to do this.

    Jess71186- resourcefulness at it's finest!

    Stacie77- haha, thank you :D

pzavecz- oh wow, that sounds amazing! our ceremony and reception locations are different, and we don't have a florist. but, our wedding is pretty small so we shouldn't be using too many vases. should make for easy transport :)

    jwrenne- thank you!

  • Absoulutely do it!  There is no shame in being resourceful!  Flowers ARE expensive, and I'm doing something similar with my ceremony flowers.  It sounds beautiful.  Congrats!

Absolutely not tacky!  We're doing the same thing.  Our ceremony and reception are at the same venue.  During the ceremony which is in the main ballroom, the reception tables will be pushed to the sides behind some pretty screens.  Cocktail hour is in a different room, so while the guests are at cocktail hour the ballroom will be converted to the reception space.

We're going to have tall centerpieces and use them for the ceremony to decorate the "altar".  During the changeover, they will be moved to the reception tables.

I think it's wasteful to not reuse the centerpieces if you can.
