Registry....not so fun

I personally didn't have a lot of fun registering today.  Granted we only did one store because we had to go help friends move all afternoon, but it felt overwhelming.  It didn't help that my FI was not really in to it at all.  Now I feel like I have to go fill it all in online, and I will probably just start our BBB registry online too.  Uggg.  Maybe it was because all of you have been so excited about yours, I got my hopes up.  Or maybe it's just because it feels like we have everything so the fun, "let's register for everything" feeling isn't applicable.  Either way, I didn't get much wedding related accomplished after all....

Re: Registry....not so fun

  • I mostly enjoyed registering at first but it became tedious. We registered at two stores, so trying to decide what to register for at each one, which products were a cheaper price at each store so our guests can save a buck or two, which one has better stores, the better brands, etc, etc. All in all it took me about 10 hours with many corrections online and a few extra trips to the stores.

Hopefully it'll get a little easier. I took FI the first time to pick out the stuff he wanted but I went alone the rest of the time. He really didn't care what shade of blue sheets we registered for or if the glasses were round or square.

  • ya I had the same experience..we did ok at Bed Bath & Beyond, FI was fun there but then we got to Macy's and he lost interest and we ran out of time before he had to go to work.  So I mostly add stuff online to my registries now. It was also hard because BB&B is so expensive that I felt bad registering for things that if we bought ourselves we'd get at Marshalls for half the price.

  • I really did not want to register and was noticeably uncomfortable. He drug me, we got through a simple one and did a few things online. I think some personalities enjoy different parts of the planning experience more than others -including registering!

  • BBB started out ok for us, but the lady who was around kept telling us to go after all the pricey stuff that we don't really want or need.  Since we like to cook and try new recipes, most of our stuff is all kitchen related.

  • The thought of it seemed great...then I actually started to do ours online.  Yea....I agree, its not fun!  I now have no desire to actually go to the store to do it.  I have a few things at 2 different stores and that is it!  I knew better not to ask FI for his input.  He hates any type of shopping!

  • i think what helped us the most is that we actually started our registries online (price-matched and read reviews) so that when we got to the stores, we just had to check a few things and made sure we liked the feel of certain things like sheets and towels. For the most part, you can't demo things anyway like cookware and vacuums. But on a side note, both of us prefer to shop online than to shop with the crowds in the stores. Good luck!

  • I didn't enjoy it either.  I'd had high expectations for it, but it really did end up being more stressful than anything else!  We registered back in April, and I took the following month or two to browse online, change things as I read reviews/thought it over, and by the time our shower invites went out the end of June/beginning of July, I was very happy with it!  But I hear ya, it really isnt all it's cracked up to be...

    However....

the BEST part is now, watching things get purchased from it!!  It's like Christmas!

  • I have to admit the first  time wiped me out (lupus causes photosensitivity, fluorescent lights give off lots of uv rays.) and took about five hours to get through the store, since we picked everything there. (I hate online shopping if I haven't already seen/felt the product).  But then our wedding got delayed and half the stuffwas discontinued, so I just had to go re-register for stuff and it was fun then. Didn't have to discuss how much we liked something, just picked what I liked, deleted a few things when I got home, then chatted with him online while we picked. But we were left alone pretty much the whole time, no irritating salespeople telling us what we want.

First time we went, we did have the lady ask us if we were sure we wanted that cookware set, wouldn't we like a better one? and we shut her down fast via facial expression and a semi-insulted tone saying yes that's what we wanted. She didn't comment on anything else after that :P

We also created an everything-registry, one of those where you can add anything that's online. We created that in large part because nowhere seems to carry round Corelle plates. That's been nice too.
  • Yeah!  Thank you girls for your honesty!  It makes me feel so much better.  It's my fault for not getting started earlier because I really wanted FI to be a part of these decisions too, but he was always such a downer about wanting to register that I put it off.  Now that shower invites are going out, I am in a mad rush to fill them now and I hate that.  I will admit that I like adding more online so I can compare across all of the stores, but it's so time consuming.  The biggest decision right now is what color we want our bathrooms in now!  It is the big project that we've put off since buying our house, and now I feel this pressure to pick out the colors it will be after the wedding.  Oh well.  I wonder when I will find time to finish these registries!

  • I didn't like registering very much either. FI and I have lived together for 3 years so we have basically everything a household needs. My mom made me go back with her to Target because we only had 25 items on there. I didn't feel comfirtable picking expensive things. Too awkward!!
