Do I send them 2 months before the big day or 2 months before I want to get them back?

Usually 2 months before the wedding. Your RSVP date should be 2 weeks before your caterer needs final headcount.

I've been wondering about this myself and I seem to be getting a lot of different opinions, but since our date is on a holiday weekend, I'm sending my out 3 months in advance and asking for a response 3 weeks before the date. I also have some out of the country family members, so I don't really know when they'll get them.

I am personally sending mine out 2 months before the RSVP date. My wedding is October 20th, I am sending them out no later than August 1st, and have an RSVP date of October 1st. I need the count to the caterer the week before my wedding.

thanks all.. we're having mostly out of town guests but I already sent the save the dates so will probably send the invites somewhere out in that 2 months window, maybe slightly eariler because I'll start getting anxious! our RSVP date is about 3 week before the wedding, we just need to give final numbers 8 days before the wedding.
