Need suggestions for centerpiece ideas

Hi ladies! I may cross post this in DIY, but I know you and love you ladies. :)

Our reception's theme is "Golden Age Amusement Parks" and our decor is going to be related to amusement parks of the 1920's and 1930's. I was having a chat with my brother and we came up with the idea of having a display of photos of roller coasters and carousels from currently operating parks that were around back then too. FI loved the idea, and we've decided we're only using coasters we've ridden together.

Here's the question though. Does anyone have ideas for how to display a group of photos as a centerpiece on a round table? I found a really cute "chandalier" idea that I stuck onto my Pinterest but I'd want to do it in reverse so the small layer is on top.

Around the outside of the display I want to lay brass rings (like some vintage carousels still have - catch the brass ring for a free ride) with "Kat + Nick 10-7-12" written on them in black fine-point sharpie that the guests can take home if they want.

Any input? I'd like a classy, not so much cutesy, way to display them. I'm finding several ideas that would look great in a rustic or shabby chic themed reception, but not in more of a 1920's glamour theme.

  • what if you did this with gold/brass colored frames? it'll look really pretty and elegant with old photos of the roller coasters. I think the brass rings would make a perfect napkin ring. Everyone will see the Kat + Nick writing on it as they take them off their napkin rings...(that's if you have enough of them?) That doesn't seem rustic to me. and then maybe instead of a photo in one of the frames, have something that explains the brass rings?

  • I like the idea of having an explanation about the rings in one of the frames, since most guests won't "get" them. I also like the setup of that, but I'd be going with DIY frames due to budget constraints (can't afford to buy like a hundred, even really cheap, frames). I really like that setup you found though, because I haven't found anything at all with google.

    Thanks!! :)

  • This is the picture I made up about the brass rings. Any comments?

  • We did the centerpieces that ReyesToy suggested. They are beautiful but take forever to get together, so if you are going with them get started ASAP. I have some tips/suggestions if you decide to go that route.

  • If you have cylinder vases, you could wrap the pictures around the vase. Then separate them and "frame" them with ribbon in your wedding colors. Then, you can also fill the vases with pillar candles or flowers to give it added oomph.

    Have fun with your project!
