Garter Toss?

Doing it or no? I know this has been brought up before but curious this stage in planning where everyone is at with it.

We're both pretty uncomfortable with it, so we're skipping it.

My brother and SIL got married last summer and they did it. She had put the garter up so high it was practically at her crotch. It was really uncomfortable for everyone to see.

I'm still deciding. If I do it I am going to put the garter around knee level. I really hate it when they embarrass the girl who catches the bouquet by having some random guy put it back on her leg. I'm not sure if we are going to have him put it back on. Maybe we will give them both a prize, she can keep the toss bouquet and I will get my pretty garter back.

Definitely doing it!  We have it all planned including the songs.  FL and I are fun people and are pretty excited to act it up and be totally goofy.  Plus we have some friends who should be next, if you know what I mean.

No way!...FI's grandparents will be there (they are like 100 years old traditional Chinese). I don't want to be responsible for a funeral. FI is into it though lol.

There has never been any question in our minds that we're doing one. FI has legendary garter catching skills and has caught the garter at four different weddings. And when he does catch it, he puts on a HUGE show of it. Last wedding we went to before he proposed to me, I got to witness this. He dove for the garter and did a barrel roll into the DJ booth! Then he did a silly dance as he was going up to put it on the girl who caught the bouquet. I was in tears, I was laughing so hard! I know it's a tradition that not everyone cares for, but it's totally in line with our sense of humor, and it's super important to FI. He sees this as his 'retirement' from garter catching, like he considers it some kind of sport, LOL, and his chance to pass the proverbial torch.

I don't want to. I told mom I was going to put the garter under my knee, like my ankle just so he could do it and she said that would ruin the fun. Gonnna talk to Fi tonight and see if he minds cutting it out entirely.

FI is way excited about it!  There's no way I'd miss out on it.

I'm not total comfortable doing it but we decided to do it, but I told FI under no circumstances he is doing the whole head under the dress thing...

no to the garter toss...our wedding will have a lot of family so that's embarassing. we'll probably just do it for fun in private;)

Nope, not doing the bouquet either.

The only single people that will be at the wedding will be my teenage and younger nieces and nephews.  I don't want to toss a garter to my nephews...so not appropriate.

Personally I always hated participating in them when attending other weddings.  Its all a personal preference, do what you want and what you are comfortable with.

We are not doing it.  There will be maybe a total of 5 single people at the wedding so not even enough people to participate.  We are not doing the bouquet toss either.  We have decided to do the Anniversary Dance though, which I think is really sweet.

Yes, we are going to do one.  It's expected and I know our guy friends will make it tons of fun.  Our friends and family are pretty crazy, so it won't offend anyone.

Most likely we won't. We're a bit older and most of the guests are already married. It's AFTER he gets the garter & I throw the bouquet that looks awkard: 2-4 people at the most? Not fun.

We're doing it. I'll have the garter right below my knee so it won't take FI a lot to get it off. My family is rowdy and crazy and FI's isnt. So we compromised.

funny we just met at our venue the other day and were setting up timing and she asked us  if we were doing the garter toss and FI very adamently said "yes !!" we hadnt even discussed it i looked at him and he was like "oh was i supposed to say no" i didnt even know he cared about it either way but i guess his answered that one so we are doing the garter toss < i am ok with it >and an anniversary dance!

Likely not but we haven't really talked about it. FI is super shy so a lot of the stuff where we're center of attention will be difficult for him. He's learning my favorite dance (cross-step waltz) for our first dance and that will be enough stress on him for the reception, unless he really wants to do it.

I like it when the couple does something really funny and in-line with their style for their garter toss, like "pull" something from under her dress. My friends that got married last weekend did this - when he reached under her dress, they'd hidden a cup of beer (they're well-known to be beer connoiseurs) under her chair, so he popped out with it instead of the garter first.
