Bed Bath and Beyond registry freak out.

So I check my registry tonight (I know I shouldn't, but I did anyway) and see that a bunch of stuff has been bought and I get excited, until I scroll down to see what's been bought.  Uh.. a ton of stuff we DIDN'T register for.  Like 2 toothpick holders, and onion holder, tomato holder, egg holder, etc.  It even says in the number requested line "0".. so wtf?!

Re: Bed Bath and Beyond registry freak out.

  • I know that you should be happy that people bought you a gift, and it's the guest's prerogative what they buy but I hate it when people don't follow the registry. That seems like random stuff too! I hate kitchen gadgets..they just take up space! Give me a sharp knife any day over a stupid avocado slicer lol!

I've heard about this phenomenon before. Apparently if a guest goes to the store to get a gift from the registry but buys items for themselves in the same purchase, whatever random items they bought may pop up on your registry. It's a bug in the system. Just because it showed up doesn't mean they'll be giving it to you!

  • I sure hope you're right.  I really don't want to come across as ungrateful.. but we registered for over 100 items.  Only about 10 had been bought, so to see 20 random items put on there was a little upsetting.  We have a very small house and an extremely small kitchen, I just don't want a lot of random items that will never get used.  I feel kinda bummed out right now haha.

  • My shower is Saturday so I have been checking my registery every day. Nothing has been bought up until tonight. I saw someone had purchased the knife set I REALLY REALLY wanted! YAY! But you know what... I thought I wanted to know but now I think I want to be surprised. I'm going to TRY to not check anymore. (That may be easier said then done though.)

I don't think anyone has looked at my registry.  I have checked a few times, so I have stopped looking.

  • I had people buy stuff for me that showed up as 0 requested, 1 fufilled like you're saying.  Items that WERE given to us, and weren't mistakenly added to the registry just because they were apart of that individual's purchase.  But you know what?  Either A) the things they got us were creatively incorporated with a fun gift basket/gift arrangement or B) exchange it for something else on your registry that you don't get!  You dont have to keep everything you get :)  It'll be fine!

  • I didn't know BB&B did this with additional items purchased. Interesting! I bought a friend an add-on that wasn't on her registry, and thought it was a surprise-- guess not, ha ha.

  • Yes, I know this happened with one of my bridesmaid's registries at BBB when she was married last year--someone bought a couple of decorative kitchen items (towels, spoon rest, etc.) that she didn't request on her regitsry.  She liked them, so there was no problem, but I'm sure if you don't want what was purchased, you could exchange them for something else.  I think BBB is pretty good with registry returns.

  • That happened on my registry.  Someone when they purchased items for us, also purchased pastachios for themself.  My fiance was disappointed when we got home from the shower with no pastachios.

  • We had our Shower this weekend, and we had Peanut Butter Cups added to the registry and fiance was happy that someone thought of him and was going to add it to a basket but they just got it for themselves as a treat for a hard day of shopping lol.

But if there is anything you dont want just wait til later and return it (but the only bad thing is they can see it beging taken off the registry if they go back to check which my noisy family would!  :(  )

Good Luck and just enjoy the shower and STOP PEEKING its really hard but it will be more fun.

  • Thanks ladies, I feel much better today.  I had just gotten home from a 15.5 hour shift so I was feeling a little sensitive haha.  Just had this fear that people were going to ignore the things we needed for cutesy stuff.  But whatever we get is awesome and I shouldn't care what it is.  The fact that people are thinking of us is what matters.

  • My FMIL didn't like the duvet cover that we registered for so she went ahead and got the one she liked better because it's a higher thread count and is the same brand as the sheets we added.  I noticed that I had an extra duvet, 2 shams and bedskirt on the registry saying 0 requested 1 purchased.  She was nice enough to get us a gift, but the name brand doesn't matter to me as much as the style.  I fully intend to return it and get the one that FI and I picked out, mostly because it's a completely different style then what we wanted, but partially to spite her- we've had a bit of a power struggle over the past 8 months of wedding planning.  Chances are she'll never know, but if she does I'm ok with saying that it wasn't our style and that we were able to exchange her gift for one that fit our style better.
