Just Set a Date...So much to do

Got engaged on Valentine's Day. We just set the date for 10/6/2012! Oh My! 7 MONTHS!!! I feel like there is so much to do in so little time. Appointments have been made on Wednesday and Thursday at bridal salons for dress shopping. Today we went to the hardware store to get paint swatches. Since we are bother visual learners, we decided this was the best way for us to discuss colors. I'm leaning towards navy and pink. But he likes dark green. We'll see what happens. Any suggestions on things that are important to accomplish ASAP???

  • congrats on your engagement!!!  The first thing would be to set a budget and get your venue.  Many places will be booked or be booking fast.

  • I agree w/ PP. Discuss budget and try and find a venue ASAP!!! This will be a little difficult since you only have about 7 months to go. Believe me those 7 months will fly by in the blink of an eye. I have been engaged a year now and I seriously don't know how I only have 8 months to go. It's insane how fast it goes and how much you have to do to prepare. Okay now with all that said... don't be nervous. lol You can do this.

  • Congratulations!!

I also have been engaged for quite a while and cannot believe that its coming so fast, but relax it can be done, as others have mentioned, think of your budget, and start looking for a venue, and then use the timeline on here as a guide, as that has helped keep me on track

  • Congrats on your engagement! 7 months is still plenty of time. You could always hire a planner to help you get things rolling. Of course, you have to set a budget first.

How did you decide on your date? We definitely wanted October but we set our date based on our venue's availability. After you get the venue, everything will fall into place. Bridal shows are always good, they're your one-stop shop for your vendors...and you can get great deals! Good luck!

  • Thanks for all the advice guys! Budget and venue seem like logically next steps.
ReyesToy- For our date, we wanted something that wasn't near either of our birthdays, July and December. I am still in school and will gradute in December. So our options were this fall or next spring. After being togehter for almost 4 years, I didn't want to wait a full year to marry him (I'm a bit impatient). So fall it was. My scholl's fall break is October 8 and 9 (Monday and Tuesday). So my idea was to get married on the 6th, take a mini-moon somewhere close 7-9, then take a week long honeymoon after I graduate. That's how we did it. :)
**On a side note: How do you add signatures and tickers to your posts? I'm a newbie.

    Congrats!!
We're date twins :). Agree with PP, venues (and caterer if not included), budget and photographer are ASAP priorities. You may also want to start dress shopping since they can take 6-9 months to come in. Happy planning!

  • Congratulations!  We are date twins too!

  • Congrats! My MOH is getting married in Sept and using pink, navy and apple green so maybe he'd be ok with that shade of green and your picks.
