Programs at the Ceremony

So, I did not plan on having a program at my ceremony (1) because our church prefers that we do not have them because they end up having to pick them up when people leave them behind and (2) because I just do not think that they are very important or useful and I preferred to dedicate my time and resources to some of my many other projects. BUT, fiance has just informed me that he reallly wants them, primarily so that everyone knows who everyone is in the bridal party. Ugh..add it to the list. So, does anyone have any unique ideas for a program?

During my search, I did find an idea where the program was very large and posted at the entrance of the church in a large frame. I think I would consider this, as it would omit the concern of our priest. Any more cool ideas?

Re: Programs at the Ceremony

  • I think having the large one in a frame sounds like a perfect idea to suit everyones wants/needs.  I say go for that one!

  • Unless you're having a complicated ceremony or it's in a different language you don't really NEED them.

  • Is there anyway you could include a note somewhere on the back/bottom that guests who don't want to keep the program to please place them in a basket at the back of the sanctuary for recycling?  Just make sure you have the basket there.  I don't know if this is good etiquette and was going to do a mini thread jack to ask about it.  My church keeps a basket at the back for unwanted bulletins after the service. Would you're priest allow this?

  • Honestly, I spent so much time on our programs and now I'm thinking the same thing... Do we NEED it?  I'll probably keep them in a basket by the guest book, so that people can sign and take one as needed.

  • Are you having a grand entrance at the reception?  That would be a great way to introduce everyone without spending money on programs.

  • Rack cards from vista print ! Cheap and small
  • We're doing them because we're having a Catholic mass and have friends and some family that are not Catholic.

In the same idea as a big one...you could do a "meet the wedding party" at the front. Instead of just a big program, you could take a pic and short bio (how you know them, who they are, etc.) and put each member in a small frame....like THIS LINK.

  • I'm doing real simple programs.  Plain paper, folded in half, with a ribbon in the corner.  It's got a cute design I made on the front, the inside has the order of the ceremony, a list of the bridal party and some thank you's.  And then on the back it says "Our love is God's to us, what we do with it is our gift to God."

Wow! Love these! THanks for the link. I know that we do not need the programs, but since fiance hasnt asked for much, I think I can atleast do something at the ceremony to introduce the bridal party (per his request). We are doing a grand entrance at the reception also, but it will be a nice introduction prior to us walking down the aisle. Yay. Thanks ladies!
  • I'm making a "program window". It's the same sort of idea as a larged framed "program" at your entrance. I found the old window at a thrift store and am decorating it then writing everyones names, etc. with a white Sharpie marker made for glass.

    Good luck!

  • I didn't have them for my first wedding and I am not doing them for my second. When I get them at weddings it is just something to hold on to and then throw away later.
