Makeup Bust

So after the first disaster, went to the MAC counter before my shower yesterday, girl was really nice and helpful and she did a trial on me so I could see how it would look and I thought it looked fine (and I picked up a lovely smelling perfume and nice lip gloss!), but then as the day went on the eyeshadow migrated down to below my eyes so it looked like I had been punched in the eyes and the foundation was so thick I had these two very well defined lines around my mouth from smiling. FI said I looked older with it, so now I have no idea what to do. I did my own makeup for our engagement pictures and it turned out fine, I'm just concerned about the foundation rubbing off through the day and getting a lip color that would stay.

So I think in the end I'll end up doing my own makeup, which disappoints me a bit. Does anyone have suggestions for products that could help?  I really like the Revlon new whipped foundation, just need a way to make it not rub off through the day. Help? Cry

  • I also got a trial done through Mac & they made me look like a clown. I specifically told the girl that I did not wear makeup and I wanted something light and natural. She put so much foundation on me! I really liked the way she did my eyes but I could not get over the foundation.

  • I've also found that having my Makeup done by a non-professional makes me look terrible. I spent a bit extra and have hired a total professional who does all the local fashion shoot.s (for whatever reasons shoot.s is now banned on TK) in my area and teaches people to be MUAs with legit certifications. I had my trial with her back in March (she books fast and requires a trial to book her) and then went about running my errands all day long and by 10 pm I still looked pretty fresh. Solid gold in my mind!

It sounds like doing it yourself is probably the best idea. There are a lot of great tutorials on Pinterst and on Youtube so you could try out a few looks you like before the day and decide which one is best for you.

YES! That's totally what I told her and my eyes and, even the foundation, looked okay....until later in the day, and considering the time frame would be right around when pictures would be taken, I was not happy :'''(

  • I got a trial done at Sephora and it was way too heavy for my liking. I plan on doing my own makeup. However, I do really like the eye primer and foundation primer from Sephora. The eye primer is by Urban Decay and I think it helps a lot!

  • I'm with Achi. I booked a MUA who has just returned from having spent a year working for L'Oreal. She's originally from my smallish city and wanting to branch out on her own. I have my trial with her on Thursday.

  • I went to the Bobbi Brown counter for eye makeup and they were GREAT.  It looked special enough for my wedding, but it was still natural.  I highly recommend them.

  • I went to bare escentuals and they did I really good job. I don't wear a lot of makeup either so I didn't want to walk down the aisle and have my FI not recognize me. He went with me and watched the lady. Then I was able to recreate what she did in a way that looked really really good for my e-pictures and trust me, for me to say I looked good in a picture is something! So I am going to do my own make up. I'm thinking of going back and seeing if they have a darker lipstick to match the red in my dress and maybe something different for the eye shadow but that's all.

I myself am an avid makeup wearer..won't step outside without it..guess that's years of being an MK consultant with my director telling me that I needed to look like a walking sales model. Needless to say this isn't a salespitch to promote their products. If you are going to do it yourself..I suggest a face primer, eye primer and maybe even a lip primer if you think necessary. Lots of makeup brands make these products...MAC, Urban Decay, Mary Kay, even WalMart has a few brands that sell primers but I can't say how good they are. These items are supposed to prime the skin to help the makeup last. Also anywhere you use a liquid or cream, top it with a powder. It helps it set. Lips can be tricky there so instead of powder on top I suggest using a lip liner to fill in your lips and topping that with a lipstick. The liner will stay..you can always reapply the lipstick for a fresher look. Also check out Kandee Johnsons videos on youtube. She is makeup artist to the stars ..and she is awesome! She has a few videos on different ways to get the perfect foundation for pictures etc. HTH!

  • I suppose I'm back to going into Sephora and/or Ulta and asking if I can try some things, this is really the part about the wedding that I hate because I don't have any extra time with work lately so going to the mall to try and find the right makeup isn't alot of fun to me, I wish I could just pick something and have it be the right thing the first time.

    Okay, whining over. />_<

One last comment I DO want to make about Mary Kay..of course you can't buy it in stores but you can go online to their website mary kay dot com and search your local area for consultants. They will come to you and you can try it before buying anything. Plus if you buy and turns out its not what you were looking for its 100 percent money back guarantee. With your busy schedule that may be an option for you and less of a hassle. I know I've went swimming in their stuff and my eye makeup was still on after being in the lake. I also use to cook over a 400 degree grill 7 hours and people would ask how my eyeliner stayed put. Everybody is different though!

  • I'm having my makeup done in the salon as my hair. They did my makeup when I was in my sister's wedding and it looked fabulous.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!
