Planning

How is everyone being organizing planning the wedding?

I think about doing a binder or just stick with online planner

Re: Planning

  • I have a planner with pockets in each month's calendar. I put contracts and vendor info in there and also use it to book appts. FI is in charge of the budget, which is easy b/c we're saving in a joint checking account that's strictly for wedding expenses.

  • I have a binder that was given to me by my best friend. I am super disorganized in my everyday life, but I am really trying to keep things together for this.

I feel behind, or just super unorganized... lol. I have a room at my house where I have all of my wedding stuff, and my desk where I do school work. I have a binder where I have all my guest/invite stuff and then... nothing else. LoL. Am I missing something here? Maybe when I have more paper stuff I will get it all wrapped up and in the same place. So far nothing has been lost or missed! So I suppose I am alright for now.
  • I made my own binder and I would be lost without it I found that the planners that you can buy at the bookstore weren't much help. Happy planning!!!

  • I have a binder that I got for free from a bridal expo where I keep business cards, hard copies of the contracts, my timeline, our menu, basically any paper item I may need to either show to a vendor or give to my day of coordinator before the wedding.

I also have dropbox which is awesome!!  It's an online storage solution that you can share with anyone else that has dropbox and you can download to multiple computers.  So, I have it on my work computer and at my home computer so I can access the same files wherever I am.  They also have an app for smart phones, so you can access your docs on your phone whenever.

I have all of our info saved to dropbox in various files.  I have a folder called Dream Wedding, then under that, I have folders for Photos, Vendor Contracts, Rrders and Receipts, and then I have various documents like our invitation outlines, our budget (which is in excel), our guest list (again, in excel), flower worksheet, honeymoon worksheet, ceremony music outline, program mockup - basically any file that I have created for the wedding.  Under the specific folders like Photos, I have more folders for cake, reception decor, ceremony decor, beauty and attire, etc and I just save them to those folders whenever I see something that I like when searching around.  I also have all of my vendor contracts scanned and saved under the Vendor Contracts folder.  And whenever I order something online, I print a PDF copy of order confirmation and save it to the Order and Receipts folder.  I downloaded PrimoPDF, which is basically a free variation of the Adobe PDF program.

it was a lot of work laying it all out, but it saves me so much time now and I know exactly where something is when I am looking for it.  And since I care share the folders with my FI, he always has access to everything as well.  I love love love Dropbox and highly recommend it.

  • Mehhhh...so I'm not the most organized person.  I like the idea of being organized, but I can rarely execute it LOL.

I have a binder with contracts in it
A folder in my email of wedding related emails
The corner of my living room for misc stuff (lol)
and our 2nd bedroom/office has some stuff in there too (bigger lol)
    An excel file with addresses
I use iCal for appointments and stuff, but I rarely write those down either!!!

In my head, I know where stuff is and what's going on LOL!  I guess it's a good thing that I have a good memory!

Thank goodness I'm marrying a Virgo (I'm a Sagittarius)!  And yes, I believe our astrological signs are extremely correct in describing our personalities.  He's the super organized one and I have no patience for it  LOL

  • Thank you Britney and Nic! I feel so much better now, lol
  • I've used Excel for my guest list, budget and other ideas and lists. I have a wedding planner with a task list, interview questions and other such things. I have a file where I'm keeping all the contracts.

  • I tried to be a little creative and designed my own little wedding planner with an old school binder I found in my closet.  I printed up a wedding checklist with items that would pertain to me, i've found that there is a lot of stuff on wedding checklists that are things we wouldn't be doing, so I customized one.  I've been printing off a bunch of pictures for flowers, decor, etc and putting them in those clear page covers and organizing them so when I meet with the vendors I have them to show what I am interested in, not just trying to explain it.  I still use the online planner, its very handy, but i've been printing everything off in case something happens and I can't get into the site when I need to.  I have a seperate file inside the binder for all the contracts that have been signed with the vendors.

  • When I first got engaged December of 2010, I made up a binder that said wedding cakes, djs, photographers, venues, guest list, and after I had went to bridal shows I filled it in with ideas of vendors I likes, pics of cakes, and the different venues I was choosing from. Then when I picked my vendor I amended it to just have that venue, and so on as I mark a check off my list I take everything else that I had collected that is no longer needed out of the binder (its actually smaller then you'd think) And my FI knows where it is, it contains all our receipts and important contracts. And I save things like the guest list on word and our budget and print out copies to put in the binder. But:
***** beware back up all your files!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!********************
My entire guest list was on my old computer, and before I had printed it out my computer died and I wasn;t able to print it out, Thank goodness I had another copy.. but becareful if thats what you are reliying on.
