Upstate NY Events?!

I am looking to book a hotel in Cooperstown, NY from August 13th - August 31st and the rates are way over 200+ a night OR the rooms arent even available. Is there an event going on up there??

    Cooperstown has a lot of baseball camps I am sure that is part of the problem as well as cooperstown being a touristy town in general.  Is there only one hotel you are supposed to use or can you look around?

    Try a hotel in Oneonta instead. The rates shouldn't be as jacked up because it's further from the tourist traps, but it's not all that far from Cooperstown.

    It's quite possible that they jack up the rates because of students returning to school too.
