Day-of transportation woes

Here's the deal. Ever since we first planned the location for our ceremony (in front of a historic covered bridge in a city park), I dreamed of having a horse-drawn carriage bring me to the aisle, and stepping out of this beautiful white carriage being the first view everyone has of me.

Fast forward to now, and with the current financial crisis we're in thanks to FI's new job not paying him for the first two months (meaning we're on my minumum-wage, part-time income only until after the wedding), the carriage is something that has been cut from the budget. I'm still moping over the carriage, considering it was one of two visions I had for this wedding (the other being the covered bridge .. at least I'm still getting that!) and I kept trying to find ways to make it work.

Today, I finally gave up on that and decided to go a different route. Since our reception is themed to golden age amusement parks (their heyday in the 1910s and 1920s), I thought ... why not a vintage car? I went to the Packard Museum last year and found out they rent a Packard limo for weddings - and it's absolutely beautiful. That idea came back and stuck in my head. Of course, the Packard Museum changed management recently and is currently not doing events.

My idea was to contact some of the local classic car clubs and see if anyone has a 1920s or 1930s sedan of some variety that'd be willing to do the wedding for cheap (since they aren't in the business of limo service), and maybe even posting on craiglist. I already searched for limo services and the one service anywhere near our venue with classics has one 1934 Cadillac and it costs the same as the carriage would. I really can't afford more than just to pay for their gas to and from.

Anyone have any other ideas where I could look? Or know a friend in Ohio or Indiana with a classic car?

  • We have the huge BlueBerry Festival in Plymouth, In this weekend.  They have a big car show.  I'll keep an eye out & see if there's any that rent/provide services.  I'm looking right now too!
